Vertical areas not sharp as the rest of the screen

Got a new 22" a Viewsonic VA2216W. Nice, big and quite a change from my 17" Dell CRT. Lovely sharp screen and all that except for two vertical strips about 1 inch wide that make the text appear.....softer (if that makes sense) blurry. Not totally blurred, but enough to notice.

I've tried the autotune which did nothing and the manual fine tune just moved the vertical strips 2-3 inches along the screen and just made other sections of the screen text blurred. It's noticable and annoying. The screen in running at 1680x1050.

Is there anyway to tune this out or should I take it back? Hope this made sense and any advice is gratefully received.

I had an old dell 17" with the same issue - no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the entire panel sharp : (
it's best to get it replaced, i'd say (if that sort of thing is covered in their warranty)
