Very basic question

I currently have a home cimema set up comprising projector, amps and speakers. I output video straight to the projector whilst sound goes off to the amp.

If I bought a graphics card with hdmi output, would it output both sound and video to the amp allowing the amp to do the procesing and switching? Would this mean I could ditch the external sound card I have?

Im looking at upgrading my computer and had an interest in the 4890, do any of them have an hdmi socket on the back plate, some of the pictures only seem to show dvi sockets, which i thought were unable to pass sound through.
