This might be a totally stupid question but it came to mind as I was partitioning up a new Samsung F3 1gb. I guess it comes in two parts:
1) Am I right in thinking that sectors at the outside edge of the harddisk should be read at a higher rate than sectors on the inside because the velocity of the disk as it moves the head is higher?
2). If 1 is correct then it matters where the partitions are placed on the disk. So the question is does the disk start filling from the centre (like a CD) or from the edge (like you'd hope it would). So basically I'm asking if a partition placed at the start of the disk (in Vista's disk manager) would be fast or slow?
