Not really proper photography but the girlfriend is looking for a sub £100 camera for our trip to Europe this June - I thought you guys might know which models are worth looking at and which are best avoided?

thanks,

Really i dont think you can get anything spectacular for sub 100, you best off just going to asda and getting one if thats the case.
I myself would just bite the bullet and do one of two things.

* Realise if i want something good for 100quid, and go second hand of the bay.
* Go to comet or asda or something and get anything cause new sub 100 ain't going to be much different there all bog standard bits. (imo of course cause ive never bought sub 100)

Go for a lower-end name-brand, Canon, Pentax, Olympus, Nikon, Fuji etc... In other words, buy a camera made by a camera manufacturer.

At that price level, pretty much all the same. Try camerapricebuster* for the latest prices on compacts...

*Not a competitor, just a price comparison website;)

you should be able to pickup a canon ixus 60 for around £100, or a fuji f30/31/40fd.

I would shop around rather than go to asda. I paid £130 for my cam before christmas... I checked asda the same week and it was £30 more expensive.

My sister has a kodak easyshare. As far as she is concerned, it has an on button, a take picture button, and some other useless buttons.

The IQ is awful, but she thinks its great.

Being me i always try and find the very best I can for a given budget (whatever the budget) and usually spend hours researching stuff.

Obviously the girlfriend doesnt care - she doesn't have a camera at the moment and wants to be able to point click and upload her photo to facebook or later print it out.

I have a cannon MP600 printer so i'm trying to convince her not to buy a camera with (free) printer.

Saw the s5700 its £99 now which is within budget. The reviews do say that it has quite bad barrel distortion though and produces purple tinges on the shots. Still its gets decent reviews.

I'm going round some more electrical shops tomorrow so far i'm looking at:

Fujifilm f40
Fujifilm s5700

Any others I should be considering?

I'm in the market for a new point and shoot, most pics are indoors low light, then outside day time stuff, will need summit for good night shoots when me and the family go away soon..

Thinking the Canon Digital IXUS 850 IS may fit the bill?

I saw a highstreet retailer had a Nikon with Image Stabilization for £99 this weekend.
Anyone have opinions on that?
Edit: its the Nikon S520

Get her to sell her phone on eBay, then take the money she makes on that and the £100 and buy a Nokia N95 for about £160 second hand. That's 5mp, has video and she can upload straight to Facebook with it! :)
