Hi,
I recently upgraded to skylake (why not, its fun!). Went with Crucial DDR4 as it is cheap and I expected it to overclock since it uses Micron chips. I just wanted to let you guys know it is a good cheap choice.
The model I purchased was CT8G4DFD8213, these are 8gb sticks and are rated for DDR4-2133 CL15 at 1.2v - I purchased two sticks, they are not a matched kit but when they arrived the chips matched on each stick (yay!).
I popped them in with their lovely green finish and no heatspreader. Booted up at stock speeds here:
Looking slow!!
Now at this point I looked up the chips on this beautiful looking RAM. A quick google of D9RGQ and I had some idea of what these sticks can do. A few people have them running at 3000mhz with pretty good timings
So I had an idea of what should work easily, I rebooted into the bios. I set some timings, command rate of 1T and a voltage of 1.35v. Most sets of ram come at 1.35v instead of 1.2v. It booted first time. Here we go:
Left it testing for a few hours, works perfectly so far.
Can it clock higher? Almost certainly, but I really do not feel the need to!
I am happy with the performance and the money saved, luckily I am not the type to look inside of my case and think OMG green horrible looking ram!
Hope this helps someone with their DDR4 choice!
