Very disappointed witht the 'Belkin 500VA Superior Series Emergency Battery Backup'

What with the bad reputation they have with their wireless products and my experience with this item, I can't see myself buying anything Belkin in the future.

It really does sound like you've got different units to the ones I have. Mine all work 100%.

My experience with UPS units has been to always buy APC. Belkin are toys in comparison to a proper McCoy APC unit.

APC have some of the best support in the industry too. They send out replacement UPS's no questions asked if it dies during a storm or something.

My Belkin UPS (Universal 1000vA) is awesome.. one of the main reasons I chose it was because you can plug normal plugs into it.

I run multiblocks off of mine.. so.. I've got 9 things plugged into it, 3 being PCs (one using quite a bit of power, too!).
Has to hold it up for 10mins I'd say?

Very happy it.

I've used APC a lot on different installations, and I can't say I'd choose one over this.

Hehe, that's good to know - I have my UPS behind an APC Surge Protector just to make sure. :D

I'd rather a £10/£20 multiblock goes pop before my UPS  :p

The 3 pin plug issue isn't a big deal for me. Got loads of IEC to IEC leads floating around and even a few multiblocks with IEC plugs on the end too. Helps to know someone who works in the cabling industry though. ;)

Have to say I'd swear by APC, afterall UPS's are their primary business - its what they do - rather than Belkin who tend to be a jack of all trades and master of none.
As already mentioned, APC's service is second to none, spare or replacement batteries are readily available and they offer a useful trade-in scheme too which makes upgrading pretty cost effective.
APC aren't the cheapest by any means, but like most things in IT you generally get what you pay for.

just got mine and same problem here guys.

installed software and load is 47%

turned of plug and PC switches of instantly

tried turning on PC with just battery and literally only managed like 2 seconds, faulty ? should i give belkin a call ?

Bit of a dissapointment these things by the looks of it :( was going to recommend a few folk get these too

Could be a daft idea but has anyone checked the rest of the sockets just in case they mislabelled them ?

Can I suggest to people that if your gonna test these things do so with the PC in your BIOS screen!?! Seems a better idea rather than crashing your system out of windows :p

just to update you guys Belkin are aware of this problem.

They are going to pick up the 500va UPS and send me the Belkin 800VA Universal Series UPS in replacement ! :D :)

Did you phone them or use the RMA web form?

Did you have to talk them into picking it up (rather than you having to send it back), or did they offer?

If I have to pay the carriage on this heavy an item it won't be worth it.

i called them, forgot the number but its on the instruction leaflet or on their site.

they are going to pick it up next tuesday and then send me the new one later. not being charged anything so can't really loose out.

they haven't really ask me much details either which is strange, just my contact details.

just to keep you guys updated, belkin picked up the faulty ups and have sent me the Universal UPS 800va in replacement.

Haven't tried it yet though
