As a smoker i have ruined my pc yet again its filfthy and i am wondering how can i clean off the stubborn dust off the pcb side of my gfx card and harddrive?

would a paintbrush do any harm along with a hoover?(hoover kept at distance)

i thought about taking it along to asda and using the compresed air or perhaps borrowing an elephant for the day but i dont want to look stupid at asda cleaning my pc :D

ps compressed air cans (or the ones ive used) suck......

we are talking about sticky dust im afriad that needs some serios powerblasting.

Sand Blast them!!!

No seriously, use anti static cloth and get off what you can. Those cotton things for cleaning ears might be useful as well.

Old toothbrush. I usually sit the PC outside when I do it.

Makeup brushes are good - get a cheap set in a 50p shop. Paintbrush should be fine.

You can get a can of compressed air from ******s.

If really icky - I have been known to wash cooling fans in a little hot water and washing up liquid. Don't dunk the whole thing - just wash the blades with cotton buds\kitchen towel.

The main place to clean is the cooling - fans, heatsinks and air intakes. If a fan is too bad, it is often easier to replace than clean the gunk from inside.

Be careful with the hoover inside the case - most people will tell you that they generate static electricity and can kill PCs.

Oh - and before you put the PC back under the desk, hoover the floor. :)

A hoover with the brush attachment, and a piece of wire from the nozzle to the radiator to protect against static :D

However, prevention is better than cure, so get some air filters for the fans.

dont quit..... do what i do............smoke outside and get an air compressor.... no problems with dust whatsoever

Iv'e always used a good paintbrush to clean out my hardware never had any probs :) make sure the brush is a little stiff but not too hard otherwise u may scratch whatever you are cleaning... (i.e. I dont suggest using a toothbrush)

for cleaning fans I just use a thin piece of cloth and rub the blades shiny clean after brushing off most of the dust with a brush.. and if the fan has got a lot of dust inside just put a few drops of oil in where the bearings are...

other than that the only time i needed something else was on a vga which had some very sticky dust on it and would only be cleaned up with some alcohol swabs (doctors use these for cleaning up cuts and stuff u get the point anyways.. :P )

Btw last thing.. make sure you clean up well with a vacum cleaner after dusting off your pc otherwise it will all just be pulled back in as soon as you switch on ur pc :P or else go somwhere far away from where u keep ur pc to dust it off :)

This, if thats what its done to your PC then think what its doing to your lungs and heart.

Hawker
Ah - well in that case you can take your lungs out with a sharp knife and clean them with cotton buds dipped in alcohol. Use a paintbrush to clean those tougher stains.

May be a good idea to have a friend around to help with reassembly in case you pass out.:D
