Very odd issue: Some website's images won't load

just to clarify are your pings still terrible with huge ammounts of loss ?

if so what are the pings to your router like, because you say the other PCs on the network are fine ?
 
Just did a ping -t to my router, mostly all 1ms but four of them were over 900 (three of which were all 903ms). Quite odd, that.
 
its definitely something screwy going on with your computer

you've tryed different network cards so the only thing i can think of is that windows is broke

take a disk image and re-format and re-install. If it doesnt work re-format and put the image back on.

thats about my only suggestion really
 
Think I might have fixed it! Decided to let TuneUp Utils 2007 optimise my internet settings, just to see what it'd do (can't make it any worse, after all). Just restarted, and it looks like all the main offending websites are working fine!

Here's hoping it stays this way...
