Very odd problem with my PC

have you loaded optimised defaults in the bios?

you could have a faulty cpu idk,ive never seen that happen before

a long cmos clear might help, battery left out a good 30 minutes then try

yeah that was the first thing I tried, Left the battery out for a good hour whilst I was mowing the lawn and loaded optimised defaults.

Looks like it's time to purchase some new kit

You can rma the chip if its less than 3 years old

It could be the mb also not detecting it correctly? Idk

Yeah I could do, I might just give it to my nephew, he has no PC of his own and I could also leave the ram under clocked to keep it stable for now. Also is would help justify new stuff lol :p

A bit late now.

One cause of this (specifically with web browsers) is hardware accelerated 2D graphics. Its been a bug in Firefox for a very long time. (You can toggle it in the browser settings).

With it enabled I see artifacts.
With it disabled I see no artifacts but there is tearing/lag when i scroll web pages.

It manifests itself as a stretched checkerboard type effect and can vanish when I scroll up/down.
I only noticed it a few years ago when stopped using IE(not affected) and swapped to Firefox.

Hi MonkeyBasher

Yeah I blamed firefox at first but I've switched to chrome and that gives me the artefacts and a whole nest of other problems like ssl auth on some webpages. Also my CPU being detected as completely the wrong one seems to point to a hardware fault somewhere.
