Hi All, trying to play project cars 2 in VR and it is akin to a slide show. Around 15 fps. Everything is set to low, including super sampling (x1).

My specs are:

Ryzen 1700
16GB RAM
290x OC
A rude amount of storage, far more than needed.

Could it be the GPU? It is an older one but so is the game.

Are you using a Rift or Vive?

As above make sure you havent got any SS enabled, also disable all overlay FPS counters etc, if you are using a Rift you can enable the performance/debug overlay from the OculusDebugTool.

I just tried again and I am now getting 45fps ish. Hmm. I did notice cornering was a bit jerky but otherwise seems to have solved itself lol.

Edit: scrub that, I am able to do about a lap then it degenerates into a jerk mess but the fps remain in the mid 40s.

PC2 is a real chugger, it could well be the card.

Plays like ghost town on my 1070 if I move up the ss and attempt to touch the defaults.

Maybe but that's does not explain why it initially runs well :/

What are card temps.., could it be getting hot and then throttling the card back? (But then surely this would happen on monitor too?)

FWIW pCARs 2 ran well in vr on my gtx 980 but only on low details and with no SS. It still ran way better than that vid however

Try running a dry lap with no other drivers see if it happens then. In wet weather the longer the race the more reflections are generated off the growing puddles and spray.

Thanks for the replies. It makes no difference in wet or dry. It just happened that the one I filmed was in the wet. :(

Card temps do not get any higher than any other games. Around 80 - 85 degrees, which is normal for this card.

What's your screen resolution? Set it in the game to 1920x1080 (windowed) max. That gives you clear menus without unnecessary additional GPU load for the screen mirror output.

It's really a graphics hog in VR. On my 1080 it frequently reprojected with the Vive on low-medium settings with 10 other cars on the track, so on a 290x I'd imagine it would be pretty bad (although if you can keep it at or above 45 fps, the Rift ASW should be doing its thing I would hope).

It is like the texture memory is full on the GPU and it has to load the textures constantly. When I exit a race and start another, it will be smooth for almost a lap then become choppy again. I have tried various screen resolutions and none have helped. It is rather like AMD hardware has been scuppered by the game.

I had a feeling it could be due to CPU. I tried to set the affinity to 4 cores but it still seems to only want to use two. I have another 14 cores to play with!

Use a gpu monitoring program to see what the gfx usage/memory/core speed is running at. ryzen 1700 is an 8 core cpu 16 is how many threads it can process.

Pcars2 is harder on pc systems than the first game.
When i played on pcars, with the same gpu as you i was very disappointed at the performance, switched to a 1070 at the time, and was very pleased at the improvement.
Currently playing Pcars2 with a 1080ti and could not be happier( using Oculus Rift),and my other specs,[email protected],and 24gb of 1600 ram.

I've just tried it outside VR and it's the same. OK for a while, then a stuttery mess before the end of the first lap. Something is afoot here. No other game is affected by this phenomenon.
