• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Very Poor

They're only hot if you run synthetic stress tests, which tbh are a bit pointless. Use your system for your normal tasks. Any errors tweak from bsod codes etc. A test often recommended for hw is Asus real bench. 5 runs of this and in my case games, all is well. Real bench gets my chip to 81c max at 4.7ghz, (1.300v). Mid 60's in games. The latter is comparable to every other oc'd Intel chip I've owned in recent years. Don't stress about stress testing.:)

Why do Intel put terrible thermal paste on their processors?

Why do people have to take them apart and put better stuff on?

Shocking state of affairs from a so called "Huge Company"

Thoughts?
4690k/4790k has lower temps than 4770k. They say they used some better TIM, not sure how true that is. Anyway its still crap and u get ~10C temps drop when u change it..

I've owned both, and tbh personally the two DC i7's I had ran hotter than the 4770k I had. I should have kept it tbh, as I only realised I messed up clocking it due to too low a cpu input voltage. Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing.:o

Agreed joey. If anyone really feels that hard done by though, don't line their pockets. I do not feel that competition is the total cause of them not 'working harder'.

As soon as a company makes a road map, and puts on a plate the progression for the next few years (lately only offering ~10% gains from the previous generation) then what are you really expecting?

Most people when they feel strongly about something vote using their wallets. Buying the product when you know this surely is grounds to stop complaining.

LOL poppycock.

Amazing how this has gone from a "**** off Intel for bad IHS compound" to "That's OK it's AMD's fault".

Yeah that in essence is pretty shocking to blame AMD for that - fanboy type mentality if there ever was one!

The thing is the TIM is quite sufficient even for overclocking if the CPU is kept at (or close to) the Intel specified voltage, I guess it's just a way for them to dissuade users from getting silly with voltages, killing the chip and RMA'ing it to them.

4790K aside with Intel processors you tend to get a massive overclock on stock volts anyway, then they just hit a wall needing lots more volts for little gain. I guess Intel's POV is that if you're greedy and willing to risk killing the chip with a high voltage then it's better for them to do it in such a way that you willingly void your warranty.
