Heya, I've got a WD Cavier blue drive, originally it booted nice and quick with my syster (i5 2500k @4.4ghz, 4gb 1600mhz ram etc)

That lasted a week or two, since then Its gone from 20second boots to 90seconds or so and another 30-60seconds once its at desktop.

I've checked non-microsoft services and apart from the few essentials (itunes, AMD Catalyst etc etc) and my start up and there's practically nothing there.

I've scanned for Virus', defragged both my boot drive, my external(with all of my games and movies) and I've also run a boot defrag and nothing has helped.

I think the only thing left to try is a clean install but before I go ahead and do that is there anything else I should try?

Cheers, Mikey.

I'd have a look in the windows event logs for any disk-related events, then try a tool like HD-Tune or CrystalDiskInfo to look at the drive's SMART data and transfer mode, then use WD's Data Lifeguard diagnostics.
Good luck!

Hi, is it just the booting that is slow, or all disk activity? If you ran a quick benchmark with HD-tune or similar it would help rule out hardware issues.
If it's just a slow boot, I'm sure that there are tools/utilities around to monitor the boot process and report on where the time is being spent. I've never had to use them so not sure of details, but it might be worth a look before you go for a reinstall as you could end up in the same situation again.

The boot is generally okay, its loading into desktop takes ages.

I run CCleaner at least weekly, as well as defragging weekly. Some disc activity is slow but seeing as all of my games and movies are on an external I can't really be sure.

I'll run a Harddrive bench when I'm home.

Probably a service hanging, or perhaps a dodgy driver or start-up app. Try running a clean-boot using msconfig, this should help you eliminate anything interfering with the OS.
