Very strange Intel X25-M SSD problem

This problem has really got me stumped. The drive in question is no longer detected by the BIOS at all, but it is not dead. Earlier today my PC refused to boot up. It would detect drives in the ACHI BIOS and lock up before detecting the first device (the one in question). Removing it allows the system to procede, but this drive is my boot drive... cue me thinking it is dead.

I decided to install Windows on the second drive and see what the matter is. This is where it gets strange. After installing the drivers. I hot plugged the defective drive and windows detected it just fine. All my data is still there, so I took a full backup and ran a full drive test... no problems found. That leades me to think it is a BIOS problem.

I've wiped the CMOS and returned the settings back to default but that didn't work. I've also tried flashing to a newer BIOS but that hasn't helped either. Next thing to try is Intel's SSD Toolbox and do a full drive test. Is there anything I'm missing or has anyone seen a problem like this at all?

System specs may help :)

Does it boot from the SSD in IDE mode?

I had the same problem, would not be detected in AHCI mode, but would be in IDE mode, cleared the problem by running HDDerase on it, or you could use Intel SSD Toolbox to do a secure erase on it.

You will find this problem dealt with in the Intel SSD forum...

Yes it did actually. I will make sure the backup works then secure erase the drive. Thanks very much for the pointer :)
