VGA in an Oven, it worked with me!

Just like this:

I brought my 8800GTX back to life again from doing this, though I think it's a hit or miss as to whether it will work or not, as I had a 9800GT start artifacting the exact same way my 8800 did, so I tried baking it as well, but unfortunately it never worked.

The 8800 is still running perfectly to this very day.

::edit::

I baked mine for 10 minutes at 200c, then left it to set for an hour before I tested it.

does any body think this will work on a 9400 damaged by static! will try but if any body thinks not wont waste my time, but nice idiotic idea!! They say that most things are discovered in this way!

Ha ha! This is great! Wish I had a dead card to try it out. I can just see myself getting distracted by a phonecall, overcooking it slightly, and later finding a nice pile of components and memory chips in a pool of solder on the baking tray:D:D

Hi, this fix will only fix cards that left the factory with badly soldered joints. They should have not left the factory in the first place IMO, but often you can only see problems after a few years usage, especially with the newer lead-free solder which has a higher melting point. A lot of military spec electronics still uses leaded solder for this very reason.

I'm not really sure how quality control could even find the bad boards unless they know of a specific batch or something like that.

However, if your card is already dead, you have nothing to lose apart from a few pennies worth of electricity/gas to power the oven, so it may still be worth a go.

The problem with the Nvidia cards was meant to be on the chip not the card. So I don't see how baking it would have any effect on that. However theres a number of people who are claiming it worked. Are badly soldered joints that common arcoss different brands?

Having worked on an inspection line in an electronics manufacturer half asleep at 3.30 am in the morning on a night shift I would say anything can happen.

I was that tired once I drooled on a board that had just had its components placed on the solder paste as it came over to me to inspect on the line........ I just whacked it through the reflow oven. :D I didn't know how to explain that one to my boss!

Fixed my 8800GTX this way as well. 10mins @ 200c did the trick :P

I used it for about 3 weeks with no issues after this when my 5850 then turned up. The 8800 is now sat in the cupboard as a spare :)

Will give this ago on mine then, i have just had one die on me, be nice if it did worl as it's been a great card.
