Guys.

Got a problem when switching out an old VGA card and replacing it with a new one... I'm not an expert so i'm just wanted to know if anyone has any experience with the problems im having.

I'm switching out a GeForce Mx440 AGP8x with an X1650pro 128bit AGP8x using an Abit NF7-S Motherboard

When I insert the new card and try to boot the system seems to start up ok, i hear the HDD's kick into life, and just as I should hear the post beep on completion the screen just remains black, nothing... only the fans spinning. I did uninstall all previous Nvidia drivers before attempting this install as advised by the manual.

If I put the old card back into the machine then everything works fine again?

Just wanting to know if im being blind and missing something completly obvious here or of any compatibility issues... any help would be great!

Thanks J

Firstly mate, you might want to edit out that competitor link before someone bigger than me tells you off :).

From the pic of the X1650 it looks like it has a power connector on the end of the card, have you connected this to your PSU, as that could cause problems if you havent.

Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem, but with different cards. I'm currently running an old GeForce2 MX400 on an Asus P4P800 mobo, but have just bought a second-hand Asus 256Mb 7600GS AGP8x that I'm trying to get to work. I uninstalled the NVidia drivers, put the new card in - including plugging in the power connector - but when I started Windows I just got a black screen (no POST etc displayed, but the monitor's definitely getting power as it's a black screen and the monitor power light's green). Windows boots up without a problem, and I can hear the "New Hardware Found" bubble pop up.

I put the old GF2 back in, and it's fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I tried again, uninstalling the old drivers in safe mode and changing the molex cable to the GFX card, as well as the slot on my Corsair HX620. I also plugged in my DVI-to-VGA adapter, and now everything works wonderfully. :)
