EDIT - TITLE SHOULD READ COMPONENT NOT COMPOSITE :o

Auction site item no 320085746741 (if i can post link, I'll edit, but im not sure)

^ Im after something such as that to connect my HTPC to my Reciever (VGA to component)

You can connect your PC to your high-definition Analog Video Applications like Satellite TV, HDTV, Component RGB Video, Y/ Pb /Pr Video and most LCD Projectors.

As you'd expect... but it goes on to say

(*)This cable doesn't support a computer monitor video port, or Y , Cr, Cb Video. Your video source should provide a YpbPr Component Video Signal from the HD 15 video ports to use this cable.

Which confused me :god: ... will it be suitable for the task or not :o ... i've mailed the seller but no reply as yet

There are graphics cards with component video output (via 3 x RCA connectors, usually on a break-out box), perhaps use one of these?

It's unlikely your graphics card will output component over VGA, most output RGB plus various Sync signals.

It wont work, you need a converter. Vga is rgbhv and component is y/cb/cr, you wont see cards that output component over vga.

Been having a think, and I can't believe i just ignored the DVI port  :p

Right.....

I have a nVidia 6200LE which i THINK has DVI (will confirm in them morning) and a ATi X600 Pro i could use if needs be...

Will the DVI on either of these be DVI-I , and if so, will i be able to use a DVI-I to component cable ? :)

They are both dvi-i, afaik a dvi to component cable won't work, the card would have to output y/cb/cr over dvi which I very much doubt it will, it's probably limited to dvi/vga only over the dvi port.

Your going to need a converter.

Converter ? Linky ?

Im reading that the 6x00 series has component capabality, and from the scraps, it runs via breakout box which connects to the s-video connection, but simply uses the connection, there is no s-video conversion, its a full HDTV resolution... does that sound right ? Think i'll have to trace one or buy a new graphics card

Yes, the graphics card should have come with one. Usually its a cable with, composite, s-video and component on it that connectes to the special port on the back of the card.

Right, sod it... going to get a Gainward 7100GS that DEFINITELY comes with the box for £25, get a component cable, sell my graphics cards and be done with it
