Is there any advantage over these?

I normally use component, but i like VGA because i can then use my PiP facility and with the new update adding better colour options im tempted to switch over to VGA

Main problem though is i also use TV as a monitor, so i'd need to get a switch i rekon.

Which is best for DVDs and the like?

My TV is 40" and does 720i/720p/1080i incase that makes a difference

With the latest update VGA >>> component every time.

Your TV will do 1:1 mapping via VGA from the 360 at 1360*768. The DVD upscaler is brilliant.

Does my TV? or you just guessing, only im not sure :)

Is it really that different? I'm in same situation as McD and sometimes use my TV as a monitor too. I'll see if I notice a difference.

Aye, it's pretty substantial on DVDs.

I have always preferred Component over VGA, certainly on the Toshiba 32WLT66, but I'm gonna wait for scmshaw to give his full report on it as I really can't be bothered tbh.

Dvds are encoded in the y/cb/cr format so component is better for them. It tends to reproduce colours better generally as well.

^^ That is true on most TVs, the LG Line of LCDs however produce much more vivid colours over VGA, this is due to the white balance features (RGB: DTV rather than RGB:PC) im not sure if the samsungs have this or not?

But yeah, im always torn between the two, but the upscaling of DVDs make the vga the winner for me...

Its just personal preference there is no right answer. I looked at those pictures of the Gears shots in another thread and via VGA both looked pants to me. Via component on my screens Dell 2405/Tosh 32 both look better than those on component.

All you can do is try and see what you like.

I find Test Drive Unlimited looks far far better on VGA; component just looks dark and has less vibrant colours, regarless of what I set on m HDTV, I also notice a lot more jaggies with component too :(

I have yet to try component with any other games, so it'll be interesting to see if they look better.....

Scort.

If you mean the shots showing the new settings for VGA, think the guy took them on a mobile phone, hence the poor quality.

Unless component really is better (man I gotta try them cables again!)?

Scort.

Yeah I mean the colours and the lighting just looked poor to what i get from component. Again it doesnt matter, it's what matters to your own eyes.
