Seems even if your company goes out of its way to pander to SJWs you can get into trouble... damned if you do damned if you don't.... this story bemused me a bit as we've had plenty of "outrage" about black people not being included/ harsh reviews over the lack of "diversity" in say games taking place in historical settings etc..

Now we've got a publisher taking that sort of nonsense into account and they can't win, they deliberately put in a load of black characters and the complaint now is there are too many oh and they slipped up with one bit of dialogue where the main character is presumed to be Italian or something.... Apparently the state it is set in has only a very small minority of African Americans. On the other hand they have quite a large Native American population though as there isn't usually a load of outrage over their inclusion in films/video games etc.. then they've basically been ignored by the virtue signalling publisher and indeed didn't tend to be a feature of complaints re: inclusion.

Is this stuff really going on in this day and age, the 80's and maybe 90's yes but we are nearly into the 20's. Segregation ended in the 60's I think. Britain never had a serious problem with racism anyway, nothing like the US.

Yeah FC2 is the only one that really went for any kind of realism angle and mechanics and they weren't exactly realistic LOL.

Seems like legitimate criticism. There aren't many black people in Montana yet the devs included loads of them and didn't include any Native Americans who actually are a significant minority in that area. Not sure why anyone's surprised that everyone's so keen to avoid offending black activists though, heaven forbid that they make a hashtag.

SJW's have been complaining about Far Cry 5 because after the early trailers they expected the 'bad guys' to be white Christian Trump supporters committing mass genocide on everyone and it turned out to be nationalistic American's of all ethnicities fighting for freedom against a lefty style collectivist cult trying to force their goody goody (but utterly crazy) beliefs on everyone, by force if necessary. The reason there were black people on both sides is because it wasn't about skin colour but the left always manage to bring that into it.

We're talking about Ubisoft here, they are a company above all else, developer dead last. It's all about image, PR and profit generation like other behemoths that are much too large to be legitimate developing studios (there is a serious problem with being too big nowadays, for most companies anyway).

So when it comes to social "justice" they were one of the first adopters and hire only the most adaptable to that cause or indeed just hire minorities because they "have" to. They have now ran up against the usual and dead obvious contradiction in certain left-wing camps, they segegrate themselves in irony and hate each other away from prying mainstream eyes.

Tough ****.

Far Cry 5 set in Montana

Which has a population of approx 1 million, of which 0.4% of the population are black.

So that's 4,000 out of a million people.

I guess they do have a point...

Vice has really gone to crap, they used to produce some really interesting documentaries (North Korea, Russia, Uganda etc) now it's full of virtue signalling SJW's. You just can't win with them.

"Under represented" amount of black people in X = "racism", and too many black people in X = you're just using blacks as a token gesture

(despite being a woolly liberal) I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect a game to accurately reflect the ethnic demographic of it's place and time and it's frankly insulting (for everyone) for game companies to to add token ethic characters when there is no historic basis for doing so. By the same token, I think large gaming companies should put some effort into creating a range of games with broad appeal across all social/ethnic groups, not just white blokes running around with guns.

WRT FC5, I guess the question is whether it was central to the storyline that the game be based in an exclusively white place/time or whether the same story could have been told just as well in a place/time what allowed them the freedom to reflect a broader cultural mix that (I would hope) reflects the target audience of the company. Given that Ubisoft are a Canadian company (with generally liberal values), I would have hoped that this is something that they might have given some thought to. Canada is hardly the cradle of the alt-right..

It's happening everywhere. Everyones rewriting history to conform to the SJW's warped worldview

Doesn't matter if western countries have a significantly lower black population, everything should have an equal amount of whites to blacks apparently

Ah a find from 2016...
I don't think that a BBC drama based on FICTION is "rewriting history' is it really?
I think we all know that the french queen of England was white. You could make 20 films with Mandella played by a white actor but history will still remember him as being black.
Did the fact that the beeb chose a black actress detract from the quality of the programme? (I've not seen it)

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, director Dominic Cooke explained the decision to cast Sophie in what is considered to be a traditionally white role, saying: “Well, in the theatre we’ve been doing this for donkeys years.”
He said that he wanted to go with the actor who was “right for the part” rather than any other factor.
Dominic went on to say: “I think Sophie is the best person in this country to play that part, I really do. Her visceral power and range is so extraordinary - that’s what I was really looking for.

Or perhaps the casting team were unable to find an actress as deathly white as portrayed in the painting.
