Vid card requirements for 3 x 24" screen eyefinity setup

I've been tasked with looking into a three screen (24", 1080p each) to for use with primarily FSX at med to high graphic settings, but will also be used for a few other flight sims, helicopters, air combat stuff, etc). I'm figuring on I5 sandybridge @ around 4ghz, 8gb dual channel ram, 1kw quality psu, which basically leaves the g/c cards. Would 2 x 6950 cards Xfired or should I be looking for a bit graphics power. I know FSX scales well with increased cpu speed, but I'm also thinking about other games.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received

Iirc, Nvidia performs better with FSX.

Cleeecooo iirc, uses 2x 2.5Gb 570's for FSX with 3x1080p 3D, maybe he will see your thread and help you out.

Hi - I have an XFX 6950 flashed to a 6970 driving three 22" screens at 1680x1050. It definately chugs along (and handles BF3/MW3 well) but struggles with Arma2, which has a flight element but is also hard on CPUs. I am looking at potentially crossfiring another 6950 reference design cards are hard to come by.

Could you flash your 6950, ie is it 2Gb original ? I reckon a single might struggle to keep up decent fps with 3 screen.

So ideally its looking like at least 2 x 6950 (preferably softmodded for extra shaders) Any other suggestions? the info the better

As Tommybhoy mentioned if it's primarily for FSX you want to be looking at Nvidia cards not ATi.

Maybe a coupla 560i or 570s in Sli then? The only issue I can see there is the lack Vram on the nvidia cards. Wadya think?
