Hi chaps...

Just wondering what you all reckon is the best video conversion software? don't mind paying if its worth it :)

I have got Handbrake but its missing any sort of batch conversion abilities (the sole reason I want this is to take a load of 1080p MTS files and convert them to much smaller 720p M4V files ;)) - so one by one is a right ballache...

Any ideas?

EDIT: Plus, it seems to mess up the audio when converting from .mov to .mp4 (mv4) - so I'd like to try something else anyway, VisualHub does the job ok so I'm assuming the particular problem is HB...

Handbrake. Free and does everything...

EDIT: I'll learn to read the posts. Handbrake can do batch convert from the command line (or via adding titles to the queue via the GUI) and I do think there is a version that does it via GUI but the name escapes me.

'WinX HD Video Converter' does the trick pretty well, theres all kinds of files its supports and youtube saving & converting functions, as well as apple presets etc.

They gave away free licenses a while ago, during either xmas or thanksgiving, I cant find the licence key at the moment, but I can get it if you need. Not sure if it supports .mts files though.

C.

Handbrake do great works for me too, but as it doesn't handle DTS audio tracks or single VOB files. If have a DVD-ROM with random video files saved on it (AVI, MPG, WMV, MOV, etc), Handbrake won't be able to convert these files, so I also take tools like iFunia and Formatfactory as a complement on my Mac conversion.

I've started using Apple Compressor v3.5 - Although (like the rest of the Final Cut Studio) it looks really dated (still can't believe this hasn't been updated yet), it seems to me to be the most solid of the bunch, and is up to date enough in terms of functionality i.e. iPhone 4 presets etc...

And unlike Handbrake, can very easily do batch processing :)

I have Compressor (well FCS actually!) and I still prefer to use Handbrake for converting movie files.

Oh and seeing as Mr Jobs promised us something special for the next release of Final Cut Studio I do hope that involves a rewrite and shifting all the legacy code.

Anyway I digress...

I would be happy to use Handbrake, but it spanners up the audio of .mov files and like I said, batching isn't particularly simple without using the CLI...

EDIT: I've just ran some tests, and VisualHub still seems to hold its own in terms of conversion speed, quality and filesize  - does anyone still use it despite now being years old and not using the latest codecs etc?
