video editing/encoding specs please

Hi, whats MM access? (am using PowerDirector 11 for non HD editing but might switch to HD at a later date)...

If I use 8GB RAM that would not be DDR3 would it? i.e. I'm assuming I need it in 3s... so would need either 6 or 12 (do they come in modules of 3GB?)

I have a bluray/hd combo drive (LG) ... the ripping would mainly be for ripping and encoding my existing DVDs into DivX so I can watch on TV using a media player ...

I'd need to get through quite a few DVDs so ideally would want something that eats ripping/encoding for breakfast though doesnt look like budget can afford that :D ...might be able to push towards £550 if I wait till end of April!

What cooler can I use that would be friendly with my case (Lian Li PC 1100V) and easy to install (apparently the Arctics aren't very AM3 friendly)

thanks!

Yeah if its DD3 then 6GB+ 3*2GB (DDR 2 8GB - 4*2GB sticks)

Went on a bit of a daydream and came up with the following...what do you guys think: (never mind the price for the moment :D)

Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail £239.99

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard £152.99
£152.99

Crucial M225 64GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (CT64M225) £143.98
£143.98

OCZ Obsidian 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600Mhz Triple Channel Kit (OCZ3OB1600LV6GK) £139.99

XFX 850w Black Edition Modular Power Supply £126.99

Teamed with the other pieces you're adding to it, that'll be a beast of an HD encoder and it'll eat SD for breakfast.

I would do some calculating on how much you'll be installing to the Boot drive. Operating system, MS office, Software for encoding, decoding, transcoding. Just make sure the 64gb is big enough. I can see it being easily big enough for me, But for some people it wont be. For example if you are a steam user, the steam folder can be ludicrous in size.

yes was thinking of using the SSD just for the O/S and encoding software/vid editing software... the rest including MS office could go on an a RAID 1 array... have a 74GB raptor that can be used for gaming etc separately..

only problem is saving for a couple of months extra to get the above :D

might as well...
