I made a thread last month saying I'd only have a budget of £400 or so if I decided to buy a Desktop if my upgrade to a Q6600 didn't work out and as expected it hasn't really.

However my budget is now £700 (now £1000) and I'll be buying it at the end of this month it's sole purpose is for video rendering with After Effects and maybe some live streaming which is a cpu eater apparently because of the encoding required.

I don't need it for anything else like gaming etc just from the knowledge I have the two most important aspects to the build are CPU and Ram (plenty of ram)

So I call on you guys to help me out here for a final build I'll be purchasing (don't need a monitor/keyboard or mouse)

So look forward to recommendations.

Thanks

Thanks for the build, I think I'd need a graphics card for some open gl stuff possibly but not sure how important it is though in all honesty. As the type of content I'm producing means I only really need to see the image preview on the timeline and stretch the video to get rid of black bars and then I pump out the video from there. I think for the most part something similar to what you've suggested just probably twice as much ram.

Yeah I looked into it quickly and the more ram you can add the better 16GB-24GB Ram is ideal to get after effects working at a super efficient rate in combination with the CPU thanks for the build

I can always add the GPU the month after :D

A lot of recommendations for the Genesis grey. If you've ever used them you'll find the XMP profile for 1600mhz is set at 1.65V - I've always had trouble with these sets trying to run them at lower voltages.

Seriously recommend the Ballistix that run at 1600 @ 1.5V without problems

+1 On this ... 16gb is getting to be a sweet spot for a 2600k

Thanks for all the builds guys.

Getting a general idea of what I should get now will definitely try and get 16GB of Ram or 24GB of ram if possible within my budget ? or is that pushing it.

Didn't they overclock very well?

But the board doesnt havent like 8-10+ VRM CPU phases (actually just 4) like better boards and monster heatsinks to cool them, it does around 4.5-4.6Ghz± safely according to reviews.

Then theres the CPU lottery, some overclock better than others.

That £36 could get a better case with multiple fans/features.
