Video editing software for .mov files

Can anyone please recommend some free software for editing quicktime .mov files? All I want to do is just splice the video file up a bit (though a few fade out/fade in effects would be useful).

Hi mate, try VirtualDub. (http://www.virtualdub.org/) It doesn't open .mov files natively although there's a tutorial to do it here: http://forum.videohelp.com/topic284288.html

I just tried that tutorial a while ago and I did manage to open the mov file in virtualdub after installing ffdshow, but how do I save the end result as a mov again? There is no option.
