more cores, onboard gpu.

Why AMD? & why a case change?

Much much much better value for money. You're getting 6 cores and one of the best onboard graphics out there for around £100 less than a 4 cores and a mediocre onboard.

Case change because for £65 you get a good case AND a good power supply - saves you around £20-30.

Case you specced was crap, frankly. Also I wouldn't use the power supply included with that to power a lightbulb.

Personally i was thinking the same with the psu, haha i was tempted t pop a modular in there instead.

As for the on board graphics, i doubt he will be running that when hes video editing, a separate card is needed for that i thihk.

Nope, onboard is more than adequate for editing and rendering. If he's recording using a plug-in (like PLDX for Team Fortress 2) then he won't need anything above onboard - if he's recording straight from game (like Theatre mode in COD) then yes, he'll need a decent dedi :p

I don't know what you're referencing in terms of editing - it's a very broad subject :p

Im unsure what hes editing video wise but photography wise hes going to be running his own firm doing photography for people.

He said he does a lot of both so i guess im going to have to find out for sure.

Onboard should be fine for that.

Unless... Ask him if the software makes use of CUDA.

Ive asked him and he hasnt a clue, ive read up on this and i dont even know weather or not he may use this.

What main reasons would he have for needing this?

Cheers,

James.

Basically it would let the graphics card do a lot of the rendering - making it faster as gpu are so much more powerful that cpus.

If he doesn't know then no need for an dedicated graphics card, so he can use onboard :)

Final?

Hes got a storage drive, and hes more likely to add a second sata drive so that if his windows 7 install fails he has ths backup drive with all his important pictures and files on etc

Personally im buying a NAS :D

Yep might as well go with 4GB sticks so you can upgrade later if needed.

Hes running off a laptop atm, i recon 4GB will suffice for now and in the future he can upgrade if needbe and ill buy them off him and sell them through my company.

Ask him whether 4GB was limiting or not. Laptops aren't as upgradable so although he was using 4GB, it may not have been enough? And if you do go with an 8GB set, 2x4GB is best, like what Redmint said, so you can upgrade later if need be.
