video editing ^^ not Viedo :P

Hi all,

i'm looking for

Motherboard

AMD Phenom Dual Core

DDR 3 memory 4GB - or more

as cheap as possible :)

Not a very helpful reply, but I was under the impression that Intel's chips walked all over amd in video editing. How about a second hand core 2 quad?

I don't know how much difference it makes, just noticed that "video editing" is the most common justification for buying a quad core in spec me threads on here. This software tends to be competently multithreaded so quad cores really do perform twice as well as dual cores.

When you say cheap as possible, what sort of bracket are you looking at? How's he feel about second hand parts?

I put an Intel motherboard / e8400 / 4gb corsair together for my girlfriend's mum a little while back, came to about 400 in total but it was new components with an antec mini P180. Astonishing how fast a 3ghz dual core is.

You can either get an AM3 or AM2+ based build:

AM3 build

AMD Athlon II X4 630 ~ £83

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-259-AM

Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-US2H ~ £63

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-245-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1481

Has 4 RAM slots so you can add more RAM at a later date.

OR

Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-S2 ~ £56

4GB 1333MHZ DDR3 ~ £80

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-030-PA&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1516

The total comes to around £219 to £226.

AM2+ build

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-377-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1482

4GB 1066MHZ DDR2 ~ £70

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-192-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=817

The total comes to around £200.

All the motherboards have the HD3000 IGP which is based on the HD3450.

Edit!!

The X4 630 beats an E8600 in video editing tasks:
