Viewing a property, had this reply

Yep.

Turns out the lad was a rich Nigerian Prince who wanted to dispell the myth surrounding his nation/status.

Fair play to him I thought.

Couldn't tell if you were just making a bad joke that didn't have any relevance to this thread.

Surely if any procedure like this would happen the letter would come from his solicitor.

Play along a bit. Demand a letter from his solicitor confirming what he's stated in the letter.

His sign off pretty much confirms it is a scam:

"Thanks so much while i will be waiting to read from you and i am looking forward to meet you and be great friends eventually."

lol:D

Whenever i rented accommodation when i was at uni I did the daft thing of going to a solicitors office and getting a list of properties to rent. No problems with renting anywhere in Aberdeen cos of it.

You went to a solicitors office to find a place to rent?

Why write off gumtree because a scammer used it?

Site has been invaluable to me in terms of finding house-shares or house-mates over a good 8 years, and all for free!

Yeah sounds like you dislike something for no reason. In my opinion if you get scammed online it's pretty much your own fault, these things are usually pretty obvious from the get go.

Whenever I hear 'Western Union Money Transfer' I can't be the only person who thinks of the whole process being carried out by an old-timer in a small room wearing a visor and communicating via telegram, and the Western Union office being located inbetween the coachhouse and the saloon... can I?

lol no that's pretty much how i see it too. Mines wearing those elasticated arm garter things too as he is operating the morse code. :p

Western Union = Scam.

You should email him back asking him to prove he has a property to rent by temporarily signing the deeds to you.
