Anyone had one or ridden one? It's a '97 VFR750.

Only ever ridden inline bikes before, currently on a hornet 600.

While i like the hornet, i don't like having nothing until ~7k, got to be in the mood to work it for the power. Main reason for looking at another bike was for a bit more low down grunt, but still enough power all in.

Would a VFR be a wise choice? Any common faults to look out for?

Check the exhaust (not silencer) for blowing or rust, I know my dad's went and it wasn't cheap.

I can't think of any reason why moving from a hornet to a vfr would be a bad thing, you're maybe a bit more forward and have your legs higher but the vfr is far from uncomfortable. You will love the power delivery if the hornet winds you up!

I will be a bit less revvy, but still, you might want to try a twin if you're looking for instant low down power.

Only ever ridden a pre Vtec VFR and personally found it really dull, but lots of people love them, and the sound is great.

I've been thinking of getting one these myself as a workhorse to keep the miles off the S1000RR. I had the 800 model and found it to be the most comfortable riding position for me. Although I think the 750 looks better than the 800.

The VFR will be way more interesting than your hornet, have more torque, better sound, and be a bit more "special". Will also have better wind protection with the fairing.

hhmm, I think the VFR will feel more premium, but I honestly think the Hornet is a more engaging ride....you just need to work it harder

why not get the vfr800 the 5th gen (98-01)wont be much more expensive and is a lot more comfy.

done 16k miles int he last year on my 5th gen, the exhaust can rust check that, but for motorway, bit of fun, riding through the rain and the snow and the winter its all good.

oh if you're being a bit of a tit on it especially with a pillion watch the center stand touching down.

This is one the scariest things I've experienced. Was on the back of a GS500 going round a roundabout and the center stand ground out....lucky there was nothing in the next lane :D

A Firestorm was my other consideration, I like working the hornet, but only if the mood is right, sometimes i just wish it had more lower end.

What about a cbr600?

I imagine i'd be in the same position with having no lower end grunt. Its pretty much the same engine as my hornet just tuned a little more.

Anyway, went down and had a test ride today, the deposit is paid and its coming home thursday. a couple of scuffs here and there on the fairing but only if you look for them. pipes were fine with no rust or marks. the chain did look rather close to the center stand though, may end up taking it off as i've got some paddock stands anyway, but ill sort that later.

not as comfy suspension as my hornet and it is a bit taller, but ill get used to that. not having the wind pounding me was a relief!

I'm a man, I can put up with it :p

:D VFR is my first faired bike so far. Wouldn't like a naked much faster than the hornet though, it does get tiresome.

It says the VFR is a 170/60 ZR17 Rear tyre, would there be any problem fitting a 180/55 ZR17? I have a new one spare i could put on.

The VFR's 5.0" rim is a little narrow for a 180/55, which is ideally suited to a 5.5" rim.

It will go on and probably be ok, though I would expect it to change the handling and turn in a bit, and not necessarily for the better.

I had a VFR 800 for a short while, HATED it. The dual cam made it hell for me. Just a heads up.

Are you talking about rhe vtech?

Cause that's not on the best one the 5th gen and it got fixed post 07 in the other models

Why did you got for the 750 over the 800 if you don't mind me asking?

Don't forget to post pics in the 'show us your bike' thread :)

Not sure on the width of my zx6r rim but I've fitted 180 section instead of 170 for years,it does help a lot in cornering
