Views changed frequently?

For some reason i can jump into a folder and it will be displayed in say, list form. I move out of it, do something else, come back, and now it's in thumbnail form :S

Also happens with my Computer folder, drives being arranged various ways. Sometimes they're tiled. Sometimes they're tiled and grouped into HDs and Removable storage, etc. It's all most odd.

Is there a way to globally set how i want my files to appear? And keep it that way?

If you choose the view you want (list, details etc) then go to Tools, Folder Options and View tab, press the Apply to Folders button at the top and they should all open in that view from now on.

If this is vista then i'm afraid it has a mind of its own. It's completely impossible to make it stick to one view, it will simply do as it pleases. Probably the biggest gripe of the OS for me. XP it works like a charm.

It's supposed to be fixed in SP1.

Did you guys do a clean install of Vista before you installed SP1?

Microsoft haven't recongnised it as a problem so i doubt there will be a fix for a long time

No, will probably do that in a few months time when I make the shift to 64-bit though.

Just to let you all know, this happened pre and post SP1. So that hasn't done anything to remedy the problem so far.

They know about it (according to a Microsoft employee called Brandon Paddock who posts at Neowin.net) and, like I said earlier, it's supposed to be fixed in SP1. A quote from him about this...

This bug IS fixed in SP1. However, it won't necessarily fix folders that are already messed up. It will, however, prevent them from being messed up in the future.

Ahhh i see. No unfortunately not. SP1 was installed a couple of months afterwards.

This mean the ONLY way to fix is is a fresh install + SP1? Nips

Even changes the add/remove programs view. A minor bug I spose but still an annoying one.

It's probably the most annoying thing I've found in Vista

Constantly getting folders morphing into media ones with Rating etc.

What makes it even worse is that often you have to pick the columns you want to display from the full list rather than the rightclick context menu.
