Hi guys

Wondered what your thoughts were on the below?

Gainward GeForce GTX 780 Phantom 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics C
AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz (Socket AM3+) Pr
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard A
Corsair Obsidian 650D Gaming Windowed Midi Tower Case - Black (CC650DW)
Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060009-WW)
Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C11 1866MHz D
SuperFlower Golden Green HX 650W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black S

for an extra couple of hundred quid i could get an i7 4770k version.

I know PC hardware is out of date as soon as you buy, but i am worried the new 8 core haswells are coming out q3 2014 , so this pushed me towards the chapter 8 core AMD. I am worried things are pushing towards the 8 cores and i won;t get much life with the i7 / i5

Use will mainly be gaming and perhaps some streaming.... I sue the IMAC for everything else.... I was also thinking of going back to the PC and selling the IMAC and beefing it up even more.

thoughts??

Thanks in advance

Get a R9 290 over the 780. You'll get equal, sometimes better performance for less money plus Mantle is coming soon

The Phantom is £380, which is the same as or cheaper than any custom 290, and it comes with free games. And it's in stock.

Firstly, you're CPU summising is very bad..

8-core AMD vs 8 Core intel is pointless. As they work differently, and if you hadn't noticed 8-core Haswell chips (if they do appear) will be x6-x8 more expensive that the 8 core AMDs. (£120 vs £700-£800)

You need to look a proper performance tests done by MANY MANY online review sites. You'll see that the 8320/8350 is around the PvP of the 4670k. (4 core).

Is this PC purely for gaming or do you do any others tasks on it too? Video editing? CAD? Photo rendering?

+1 exactly the same things I would have asked.

Thanks for the replies,,, mainly for gaming as i have my IMAC for everything else which has an i5 in it... thats why i am slightly leabning towards and AMD now...

Thanks

* Might look to doing some streaming aswell

Well out and out gaming the i5 4670k is better than the 8320/8350 (they are the same chip).

Though if you are streaming too the AMD 83** is better for that, especially while playing games at the same time.

Word of adivce, get the 8320, not the 8350. Its the same chip just overclocked, not worth the extra money atall!

Thanks Doom

is there any reason why you have choses the diffwerent other compomnents from my spec? Just to keep costs down?

not sure the AMD chip and mobos can take that faster RAM?

Thanks

Well, the 780 i specced has a better cooler IMO and i much prefer EVGA as a brand to gainward (just personal choice).

8320 was specced due to reasons above.

C70 is just a better all round case and WILL accept the H110 which the 650D won't.

The H110 was picked as the H100i is OOS, another option is the Silverstone tundra.

The motherboard will do exactly the same job as the sabertooth just for £60 less. :) Though it won't do SLI, but neither will the PSU.

The motherboard will accept fast RAM upto 2133mhz (you'll just have to be happy with 2133mhz. :)). Tjhat kit is cheaper than any 2133 kit. :)
