Hi all

Anyone got anything to say about either of the above vehicles.

Both would be the current model but the V50 in S spec with 1.8 litre engine and C Max in Zetec spec with 1.8 litre engine. Money not an issue.

Cheers :)

V50 looks quite smart without betraying its Focus underpinings. Floating centre console is nifty. Would be my choice. But not with the 1.8 petrol engine.

Money not an issue.

Buy something else then.

Thanks Fox/Tim

Car is for my father-in-law via the motability scheme.

The V50 1.8 S is available for £679 advance and the Focus C-Max 1.8 Zetec is £150 advance. That why money not an issue :)

I personally agree with you Fox but the spec on the V50 is not as good as the C max for more advance.

Would love to hear more opinions, good or bad.

Cheers :)

Been looking at exactly the same cars , went to the volvo dealer the other day and was very impressed with the volvo but is a lot smaller than what you expect it to be

Also look at the vauxhall zaf aswell as these start at 0 advance

Ditto:D

The Volvo was smaller than expected but so is the C Max. The Volvo though does "look" better:p

The Zafira is not a car we looked at but i will tell the missus. She really wants to go away from the MPV ride etc but still keep the practicallity. Which is why the C Max is her choice.

What have you chosen?

Cheers :)

look again, its through motability

you cant get a Porsche on moatability (unfortunately :D )

Oh I had not spotted that (my usual read the OP & fire off a post!:o )

Are the Volvo V50 and Focus C-Max the only options he has?

I got a Focus C-Max, its a good car I got the top spec deisel though, I didn't look at the volvo when I was shopping for a new car it cost a lot more lol.
My vote for the C-Max :-D

No, options are endless but all vary from £0 advance payment through to £20,000+ advance payment.

The two cars i listed are the ones we have chosen to look at.

Cheers :)

Have a v50 2.0d on the drive.
It is small, the floating center console looks great, but I a wondering what happens if you ever want to change the stereo. We have had it coming up to 3 years in Feb and we have not had a single problem with it (apart from me hitting a post while parking). Very nice car, very boring, but I would not want to travel long distances in any thing else.

If you can live with the small boot, its a good car.

Thanks for the heads up.

Still undecided but going to test drive the V50 tomorrow.

Cheers :)

Nothing like a bit of good old exaggeration :D

It does sound like I do admit it, it probably is a bit, but its not too far from the truth.
I drive for a large fleet and I drive everything from smarts to 7.5 tonners, last year I drove 110,000 miles (I know its smaller vehicles and probably a shorter distance than you R124/LA420) and while I am not suggesting that the volvo would not be swapped for any one offering to swap a E class for it, if I had to drive a 10 hour round trip it would be my choice.

Its one of those cars that is not going to impress anyone, while I would say a S80 would be better down the motorway, having to drive down tight country roads would start to be quite tiresome quickly I would have thought (I have driven big volvos, but never a S80).

So I am going to stick my comment that It would be my choice for long journeys.

I am not sure if it would be for short journeys, it does not shine there (the volvo seats do not show their greatness in short distances), but thats different :p

My old man has a s40, and I have a Focus Estate...

Similar-ish :)

Anyways, my views. The volvo is very refined, far quieter on the road than the ford... however the 1.8 TDCi in my focus is faaaaaaaar nicer to drive than my dads 1.8. He wanted a 1.6 but i recommended he got a 1.8 at least... and even that feels slow.

On the other hand, he doesnt care that it doesnt win the traffic light GP and instead finds it very good on fuel and very quiet.

He also gets cruise and alloys as standard, rear EW's etc etc... so even the base Volvo has a good bit of kit. Id recon its better specced than a Zetec C-Max... but i might be wrong.

Inside I find it quite cramped... yet i find the focus has plenty of room.... i dont know why but it just feels smaller inside.

My overall opinion of the s40/v40 is good and im tempted by one as my next car, but it would only be the 2.4 D5 manual. On the other hand, i find the Ford pretty good at everything with only a few niggles on minor points...

Id go for the Volvo... but it would be a different result if it was vs the S-Max.
