I drive for a large fleet and I drive everything from smarts to 7.5 tonners, last year I drove 110,000 miles (I know its smaller vehicles and probably a shorter distance than you R124/LA420
Do the maths - its a rough average of 423 miles per day over a 5 day week - taking into account speed limits, tachograph regulations, waiting times, traffic delays not to mention sleeping and other daily activities, its nigh impossible to do such a mileage in a year in an HGV (big or small)
I drive at night, when the roads are quiet, yet still average only about 380 miles per shift at a maximum 10 hour driving stint (going from Stoke on Trent to Grays in Essex & back, via Magna Park in Lutterworth) - the same trip in the daytime cannot realistically be done without a driver change over around Donnington Park on the way back well, not legally anyway!
110,000 KM is more like I'd have thought mate.

For long distances my old 728i was superb, near silent @ 80 MPH, returning high 30's MPG, and you arrived still feeling fresh, and it never ,despite its bulk, got tiresome on back roads something that never failed to impress me with the car.
I'd hate to take my Mondeo TD over 100 miles in one go!
