Just arrived today and is now installed - it is brilliant... superb picture, lovely colours etc.

HOWEVER, it isn't allowing me to set the native resolution to 1680 using DVI (only goes up to 1280). I'm using an FX5600 gfx card as I haven't built my new PC yet, but this shouldn't prevent the max res. going to 1680. It also works fine in D-SUB / VGA and getting to 1680 is no problem.

I am frantically Googling this and noticed that I'm not the first with this issue and there HAS been a solution discovered at some point (certain sites have alluded to this) but I'm yet to find it.

As I continue my searching, I just wondered if anyone else has heard of or had this problem?

my DVI doesnt even work so i am waiting on Viewsonic to get my replacement to me.

the solutions i found for sorting any DVI problems were to either plug in the DVI and VGA, power down the system, remove the VGA remove the power plug the power in and boot up. it didnt work for me though.

Todge - I found that exact same solution and it didn't work for me either!!

This is deffo a DVI issue as it lets you set the max. res at 1680 in analogue - but only 1280 using DVI....

..just about to do a custom resolution in the nVidia control panel now...

Whoooooooooooooooahhhhh....

It didn't like that!

The screen went a bit zany and mad - like some 60s psychedelic imagery and then fortunately returned to 1280 after I'd shaken my mouse about in panic.

Don't try that at home, kids.

lol, have you made sure that the refresh rate isnt set to something it cant handle? im going to try mine again today as as i said it hasnt worked at all so far but you never know. also in the past when we have had monitors (1 hercules thing, one iiyama 19" and now this viewsonic) replaced the courier has never been told to take the old one so fingers crossed lol.

it works perfectly in dsub and i have to say the picture is very clean so if i do get lucky enough that they dont take this one i might just flog the replacement on ebay so long as it works

Yup - refresh rate is set to the default 60Mhz (that's all it offers you but I think that's ok for LCDs)

Gave up last night after the "custom res" experience....

...another day now with sleep-induced optimism and I think I'll continue to do a mixture of surf around for an answer and try that solution with using the Analogue and DVI together to start with.

The installation guide actually tells you to set it up that way and I, in my excited haste, didn't bother and just stuck the DVI straight in!

If I go RIGHT back to the start and do everything as suggested maybe it'll prove fruitful

I'm sure anyone reading this is having kittens at the thought of me testing this with an FX5600 as well, as it's hardly state of the art.

But, it has a DVI port and gets 1680 on analogue so I haven't read anywhere that the maximum resolution differs from one input type to the next on the same card....

me either dude, you might want to get in touch with viewsonic tbh, they called seconds ago and told me they cant get hold of and 2025s to send me at the moment but want to offer me a 2235 instead. i asked what happens if i say no because im not sure about the reviews on the 2235 which i'll be looking at shortly but they seem really happy enough to help out so give ema ring.

just called ViewSonic back and said yes please muchos grassyarse. the 2235 will be here on tuesday with me secretly hoping they dont take the 2025 lol. i was a little hesitant at first from a few things remember reading but im happy enough with what i have read form real actual users in the OCUK shop and stuff. yeh its only 16.2 million but it can only display 1.8 at one time anyway, also i only ever use it when sitting at my desk so not having silly viewing angles doesnt bother me in the slightest.

roll on monday when my 8800gts arrives and then tuesday when my 2235 arrives :D bliss lol.

well I have just had an issue with my VX2025wm and have today received my new one. I only called them yesterday about it and other than slight mix up at parcel line's end for the delivery it was spot on service.

The issue I had was the dvi was a bit flakey and seemed to work one moment and then not the next. Although it doesn't seem to work via dvi on the mini mac so I'm guessing there may be a compatability issue there. So can't wait ubtil tomorrow so I can get my new machine and really see what this monitor is capable off. :D

edit:
well seems like it was just a loose connection and possibly a dodgy cable as it seems to be working for now on DVI (touch wood).

edit 2:

well looks like the replacement has gone up the spout as well. :( It is working for a minute or two via dvi and the same with vga. Thinking I should have just kept the original as at least that worked via vga. So will have to give viewsonic a call on monday and see what they do for me this time.

I'm gutted as I am having to use an old 15" monitor which is just so small.

well it seems to be working through vga again. so lets see if it lasts the weekend. Plus it looks like this may be a recon unit as the base has some scratches and some sort of glue like residue on the base near the feat.

I am not a happy camper at the moment

Anyone having a problem with this specific issue, I think I may have found a solution!

It came from the nVidia forums and the fix seems to apply to a select group of nVidia cards.

Basically you need to go into the nVidia control panel and "Manage Custom Timings". Up come a series of "Back End Parameters" which you can manually set to 1680 x 1050. Then you must change a "Timing Standard" to "CVT Reduced Blank".

If anyone wants further details, please let me know.

i'll definaty try my DVI again tomorrow when my 8800GTS arrives. not that i think its going to make any difference. even if it does i think i'll still take the 22" from viewsonic :D lol

well have just had my second tft sent to me and it is slanted. it seems to tilt from left to right so the left hand side is slightly lower than the right.

viewsonic are now sending me a third monitor and this one better be in top shape otherwise thats it. They wouldn't even upgrade the monitor for me which i thought was a bit rough.

well as i mentioned earlier, i got a call from VS to send me a replacement 2235 for my DVI faulty 2025 (no 2025s in stock apparently). they said it would arrive today. Then on monday VS called again to tell me that they wanted to send me a monitor, i explained yeh been through this its supposed to be arriving tuesday. ok she said, it'll be there wednesday because its not shipped yet.

today i go out not expecting it to arrive, i come back and there is a note from parcelline :@. not so bad i thought, i wasnt expecting it till tomorrow anyway, then 17:30 rolls around and mr parcelline knocks on the door to swap the screens out. quality :D

this one a) works properly, b) is IMHO much nicer astheitcaly than the 2025 and c) bleedin huge lol. Nice glossy Bezel which needs attention cos it fingerprints easy, same resoluttion as the 2025 though so i can sit a little further back :)

hope you have better luck this time Dave.

seems strange that they upgraded your monitor and are not prepared to do that for me at the moment and so I just hope I get my third replacement tomorrow and it is fine.

Todge is it possible to post some pics of the 2235 as I would be interested in seeing what it looks like.

this unfortuantely is made worse by the fact i have a brand new pc and can't take full advantage of it until this is sorted.
