man...I seem to have developed a dead pixel right in the middle of my viewsonic 2025...and allthough its hardly noticable...its still annoying. Its sjows as a white speckle on a black background (i assume its dead) as ive never seen one before. ANyhow...as its probably just less than 1 month old..how about sending this back and getting a replacement from viewsonic...whats my chances?

It might be a dead pixel, but it could also be a stuck pixel. I get these sometimes on my tft and all i have to do is flick it softly and it should go away. If that doesn't work then there are tools out there that can help to get a stuck pixel working again by flashing images on the screen.

If then it's still stuck then i'd say it's probably dead. Try and find out from Viewsonic what their policy is on dead pixels as you may have to have more than one dead pixel before they accept it back.

any idea what tools I can use????
Never had to use one before but read about them on here.

Try having a look around on Google :)

EDIT: i take it that flicking it didn't work then?

Does anyone actually know viewsonics dead pixel policy?

I contacted them yesterday...they said that they would replace the monitor...but further questioning from myself revleaed that it will only be a refurbished one! Man...my monitor is only three weeks old...and there going to replace it with one that could have been faulty 7 months ago. Not impressed!

Thing is the "dead pixel policy" imo is quite good cause i am about to get one too. Regardless if it refurbished or not, they have to give you a working replacement so i wouldn't dismiss it totally before you actually get it. The thought of it being a broken unit isn't appealing but see what you get first and if you continually get a problem or same issue then escalate it.

I see what ** saying....but at the moment I have a brand new monitor...with a dead pixel (which really is hardly noticable as its so small...and never during gaming). Hey dont let me put anyone off this monitor...beacause I find it excellent and a lot of LCD manufacturers have a 10 pixel policy as apposed to just one pixel like viewsonic. Its just that I dont like the idea of getting a 2nd hand one as replacement for something thats only a couple of weeks old.

Do you think re-furbished is 'as new'?

If IIyama are anything to go by then refurbished is a long way from "as new" the two CRT's they've replaced of mine had scratched cases, if it's only 3 weeks old can you not get it replaced from where you bought it?

When I had my Iiyama 19" CRT, it was delivered at 4.30 on the friday, by the time I had set it up and realised it was faulty it was to late to ring Iiyama so I rang them at 9 am on the Monday, they said we will will replace it, so I asked will that be with a brand new one and all they would say is it will be replaced with one that is the same age as yours, when it arrived it was worse than the original one. It does seem an unfair way of doing things especially when you have just splashed out £300 on a monitor like I had. I have a Viewsonic VP930 now and so far so good, it is an excellent monitor.

toxic:

I bought a Viewsonic VX912 back in December 2004, after about 6 months (June 2005) I got a dead pixel (rather than lazy), anyway, I simply rang up Viewsonic and I told them what I was experiencing and what test I had done, and without any issues they said they would replace the monitor.

However, after almost 3 weeks it still had not arrived, when they had said it would be 48 hours, so after a very "direct" email, someone from Viewsonic rang me up, and I had my replacement monitor the next day.

The manufacture date of the replacement monitor was Februrary (beginning of) 2005, and I received the replacement about 20th June 2005. The replacement monitor has run without any problems since then (ie the last year). As regards if the replacement was brand new or simply refurbished, I never stopped to think about it, I simply "assumed" it was "new". :)

if you look deep into the warranty guilines...it actually does say 'refurbished' as opposed to new....so my hope would be that the refurshied one was as good as new. I still havent accpeted the repolacement...as I filled out a customer complaint on their web site and hopefully someone will come back to me (its did say Id get a repsonce within 48hrs..that was Monday). Hopefully they will replace with 'new'...however if they dont i will more likely take the replacement.
