Hi all, Just bought this off No competitor talk please!, any one know how good it actually is?
It says 2048*1536 @ 68Hz, and it apparently is 20"

Someone said that greys may be have green or pink bits in it - like my mates plasma tv, playin bf2.

Cheers guys!

That's not a problem, they don't expect you to use the highest resolutions available on CRTs. It does 85 Hz at 1600*1200 which is the optimal setting on this screen size.

Wouldn't like to speculate on how good it is though. You'll soon find out :)

sorry about that topgun.

i dont see a difference in any of the refresh rates, infact increasing them hurts my eyes.

68hz @ 2048*1536 was very high i thought!

im gonna force everything to run at that res - its the only reason i bought that monitor, why would i want 1600*1200 or even 1920*1080 when i can use 2048*1536!

...because 68 Hz flickers on a CRT. You should use CRTs at at least 85 Hz (75 at a push) or you can get eye strain and headaches. Also at 2048*1536 the dot pitch will be tiny, text will be tiny and it will be bad for your eyesight in the long run. The fact that it only does 68 Hz at 2048*1536 tells me they don't expect you to use that res. My 19" CRT does 2048*1536 too, doesn't mean you're supposed to use it, the recommended mode is 1280*1024 @ 85 Hz.

I agree, you don't want to be using the screen at 68hz for any lengthy period of time as it'll bust your eyes. I personally can't use any CRT that doesn't do at least 100hz.

really?

ive never used anything higher than 60hz, its what ive used since i was like 6, but i just thought the higher refresh rates did nothing except raise the frame limiter in some games - imho anything that plays above 32 fps is just a bonus, any game i play at higher rates does nothing except lower the resolution i can use.

i should say something to my work, they all run on like 800*600 @ 60hz on 19" crts and when i joined they told me not to use the computers @ 1280*1024 because they couldnt read them. the refresh thingy could probably be why they have such bad eyesight, then again their most powerful gfx set is a cirrus logic 5143 (not sure of the number)!

Cheers for the help guys!!

Got it yesterday night at 5 o'clock. First impression is totally awesome, i've never seen a display with such clarity, and range of resolutions, and wee features to make it display perfect. On a side note, 2048*1536 was disabled AFTER i installed the viewsonic windows signed drivers. However playing bf2142 on 2048*1536 @ 60hz was outstanding, the OcUK 7900GS handled it well, with little affect on my lag time, but i did notice a slight increase in the time it takes for the game to respond to a mouse movement, hopefully when i get my rma for the other 7900gs - the SLI mode will fix this!

Value for money: 10/10 a display of this quality for little more than £170, what else could you say.

Ergonomics/Niceness: 6/10 it is a CRT after all, and had to get my lil brother to help me lift it up the stairs, a nice dull cream colour but the screen itself is completly flat and anti reflective so thats a plus. Also the swivel base its on is solid, and easy to move, unlike some crts where you have to get a crowbar to change the angle.

Visual Quality: 9/10 the drivers were a let down, locking me out of 2048*1536, even at that res. it was still crystal clear, and i could read the text without straining too much, but its very good on the 1920*1440 @ 75hz for games and for dekstop 1600*1200 @85hz

amendment:
i meant to say 1920 *1440 @ 75hz for games, not 1200 as this is a widescreen mode - pic's soon
