Right ordered my viewsonic vx922 which should be arriving today. Have looked and read much about this monitor and it had some cracking write ups. Not to mention strongly recommend edby Badass with some solid material/facts. *i can see why*

I am so excited :D as i was reluctant to get rid of my trusty crt. So hopefully everything should be ok, One query when i was looking for drivers for this was that, what is the difference in unsigned and signed drivers for the monitor and which is better?

Secondly is it better to uninstall my GFX drivers and reinstall them just to allow it to detect the monitor change and amend anything it needs to do?

Once again thanks Badass for recommendation and info.

Hi Kyo, no worries, I hope you enjoy the screen when it arrives. There's no real need to uninstall your graphics card drivers, but it wouldnt hurt to have the latest drivers installed anyway if you haven't already. Regarding the monitor driver, it probably wont make much difference anyway, but might as well have the signer version i'd have thought :) When you get it, make sure you're set at 1280 x 1024 res and at 60Hz refresh rate (don't bother going with 75Hz with a TFT). Maybe use this monitor calibration wizard to help set up the colours and contrast and brightness and you should be away!

let us know how you get on, pictures always good too :D

A few months ago, I was also reluctant to move away from my CRT and I play a lot of very fast on-line FPS so was unsure.

I eventually opted for the VX922 - mostly from reading Baddass reviews etc, and I'm am totally happy with it, I would never go back to CRT now

Hope you are as happy as me :D

It arrived yesterday and i must say you guys are spot on. Thanks BadASS!

Very nice packaging and the finished unit was nice, sleek and sexy. :D. Took a few mins to calibrate it but worth spending the time to get a very clear, crisp image that are not only way more vibrant than the crt but the details you notice really brings out life in games. It so clean and crisp that I can't believe that i am playing the same games. hl2, cs and doom3 etc is really now so stunning it practically another visual level.

Exactly what you see in the magazines and adverts.

No dead Pixels and no colour bleeding on the edge or corners, unlike what some owners have mentioned on the net. The viewing angle isn't as wide as the crt but it still a decent viewing radius, enough to be not be concerned about at all. The images are quick to the draw and the delay is hardly noticeable.

For the first time in ages it like playing cs without any fuzzy or blurry images as you can make out detail in the distance now. My game in cs has never been so strong.!

I think it worthwhile mentioning to people that instead of piling so much money into gfx market, every few months it probably way more benefitial imo to get a decent monitor instead. You certainly have something to show for it!!! I now know the error of my ways

Abosolute amazed that my rig can handle 1280 x 1024 without any bother at all. The amazing thing is it seems to perform better at that res than some lower ratios.!!?? where the logic in that??

60hz is giving me excellent fps despite being skeptical at first but as mentioned by BA it more then enough.

Very please and highly recommended. Thanks again Badass...you are the man in my book!! Much appreicated.

Badass - why not go for 75Hz? I've set my TFT to 75Hz and would be interested to hear if this is the wrong thing to do. I believed that the highest refresh rate possible was usually best? If it makes no difference then why 60 and not 75?

Nice one Kyo bud. Sounds like you got a good one there. You must be unstoppable in CS now if the monitor has improved your game even more hehe :D

excellent to hear Kyo, glad you're enjoying the new screen :D

have a read about refresh rates here/ 60Hz is the optimum refresh rate for a TFT. Running it at 75Hz can actually adversely effect the overdrive control as well, so for models like the VX922 which use a heavy dose of overdrive, running above 60Hz will actually effect the responsiveness of the panel. More info on that aspect here. With CRT's, maybe the higher the refresh rate the better, but it's different with TFT's especially now overdrive is so widely used

One thing I've noticed about 75Hz vs 60Hz is the effect it has on frame rate when vsync is on in a game. If your GPU output is set to 75Hz (75 fps) and your pc can't quite keep up, it will half the frame rate to 37.5 fps. Set it to 60Hz and your pc might now be able to cope with 60 fps all the time, if not it drops to 30 fps.

Yeah, but chances are in new games you may not hit 75fps ever, so can turn off vsync for a tear free game. Turning it on, just means risking cutting your framerate in half every time you drop below either 60 or 75 fps, depending what your refresh is set to. The joys of LCD screens unfortunately. It's a pity more developers don't lock the max. framerate of their games like ID did with Quake 4, setting it to 60fps. I play at 75hz and vync off and I never get tearing as the engine can't get past the refresh my screen is set to.

All is not lost though. If you do use vsync, try googling for a tool like DXTweaker and create a profile for your game to use Tripple buffering in D3D. This allows you to use vsync and still get very good framerates.
