Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Ok thread update - Ill buy anybody a beer that can find me a original DS shell for a reshell / mod in any colour that isn't pink. I had one ordered on Alix but the seller hasn't sent it and Alix refunded now all I can find is pink :(

Awesome work sir! The LEDs might be a step to far for me personally, but it's great you have such an individual console.

I think the LED's might be a bit far for me as well but all the mods were required  I probably wont put them on the blue board thats coming. I will put clicky buttons on it though.

I'm building something... this is the first part after one coat of filler primer, a little sanding and second coat down... probably going to finish it either in a strong blue metallic or possibly a candy apple red not sure yet..

Its clearly a 3d print but can anybody guess what it is?

Part 2 is currently printing!

Got some pretty good updates, I think I told you about the failed oled mod chip install from Italy? Today I put an end to that saga and my god... what a journey! The previous installer managed to damage both the mod chip and the switch board. Some people should not be charging for soldering work when they leave devices in the state this one was in. Apparently there is a recommended installer list somewhere on reddit or something. If you use this for a mod chip/screen mod or some other install just make sure you trust that installer!! This one should make some good reading as I had to remove the nand, run a wire directly to one of its pads then reballed the nand and reinstalled it. All because somebody got heavy handed :)

I'll share some photos as soon as I get a little bit of time. Done a few more game gears, ill probably share some of those up in case you forgot what they look like. I also have my Blue GBA board :) It feels like I've done more, I've finished the second print on the mini ps2 but its warped and they dont fit together very well at all so might have to do some reprinting... I think its because I started finishing the part spraying/sanding before I lined them both up. So ill be revisiting that one soon enough.

I will post some updated images and story on that oled but this is much more interesting...

I'm slowly starting to build up the ultimate gba! Everything that's going on is either new or has been cleaned to within an inch of its life. I have a resistor and cap book specifically for this build so basically every component will be new. So far I've installed cpu, 2 modified shoulder buttons (captive clicky) that port is off a donor but I sanded and cleaned it... fuse f1 is on and I've ordered about £20 of components in.. can't wait to finish this one.

What sort of tools did you use to install the cpu? I'm having palpitations just thinking about it given how tiny the pins are!

He's right you know... I used a jl02 tip. I also finished it off with a little hot air, surprisingly it only took about 10 mins to fit it up.... Ill likely go over it again before final assembly. Make those joints just perfect :)

Our Italian OLED - Which I still havent shared the pictures for is back in italian hands! It turned up back home today to a very happy person.

I may as well show you a few images of what I ended up having to do to it! So little back story, switch came to me with purple screen of death following a mod chip install gone wrong. Now that means one of two things on a switch, thats either cpu command resistor with that missing it will purple screen or an issue with cpu/nand communication anyway get the switch open it up and.... find 2 holes straight through the board next to the cpu and a hole in the side of the nand chip.. Ill update some images once I find them.

So I went ahead and sourced a new board for our poor innocent victim of a dodgey installer and fitted it all up... but every step of the way hit issues as not only was the board destroyed, the chip itself has also been so we had to work out what had been done to the chip.

The first thing I noticed was the cpu flex has been broken so only one thing for it the nand has to come off and ill have to wire directly to it...

Then you can see this:

See this missing pad here and the random resistor sitting on to of that qfn chip wired directly to the board? Well these are things you end up having to do when somebody kills the thing... they managed to rip a resistor off of the board that sits on the nand input line and this along with carefully measuring my own switch helped me no end make the thing work again. The wire to the missing pad.. that actually goes under the mod board and is connected to a via under that qfn chip so much more work really than is sensible.

When it was done:

Far from my normal clean installs this one was a mess because of all the damaged caused by the previous installer :(

Annie if you are reading this as I know you also follow this thread - It was an absolute pleasure even with all the issues and I hope you are happy with it now!

Sat down last night at about 10pm to fix some consoles :D. Cracked on again today at about 11am for a few hours and I have built a little collection of repaired consoles :).
