Hi guys please watch the video and the problem is self explanatory

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTSyZXAlnwE

Vibrations are travelling through the floor, through the rack and into the stylus - Is this a normal thing and am I over thinking it, or is this like the worst thing ever??

(keen eyes will notice a happy hardcore record - this is battered just for testing turntables only!! , There is also a p-mount cartridge in a standard head shell - again just for testing)

Thanks

This is normal, the SL1210 is not a very good turntable despite the following that it gets.

Isonoe feet will solve it. Or cut up some tennis balls.

Club installations tend to have them on massive concrete plinths sat on solid ground with the rest of the DJ booth built around them for this reason.

Ah ok cheers, in what way is not very good? I thought it was one of the best

I have a similar issue three decades ago when I owned an LP12. Personally I went with a wallmounted shelf (Target TT1 back then). That would be my recommendation. Unfortunately there's very few now made. Another s/h worth looking for is a Mana wall stand. The TT1 is typically quite cheap (rightly so, it's nothing special, but does the job). The mana unit is more specialised, and apparently better.

Google Turntable Wall shelf and you will see lots, seem to be around £120.... I'm sure similar on eBay will bring up some cheaper/used options. TT's should be on light ridged structure, floors ok on a solid concrete floor, otherwise wall shelves are the safer bet.

If I put a record on a go sit on my sofa and not walk around ect will this be a cheaper way of getting around the problem? Or will sound from the speakers (1 meter either side) work its way back in too?

Yes it will feedback... airborne and mechanical through the floor etc.... Obviously depending how loud you play it to what degree it does it.

Generally people play vinyl because of its sound and unique characteristics, your only going to get that if the deck is allowed to work to its best.

As I'm sure you know a TT works by tracing the groove in the record that is full of pits, bumps and wavy. Which the diamond traces, causes a current to be generated in the cartridge coils. Now if that tiny vibration caused by the groove is added to by room or mechanical vibration you are now not just getting what's on the record. Either extra noise or less detailed is retrieved from the record.
Worse case the cartridge will mistrack, distort or even jump.

Yes it's important, if you want to hear what's on the record.... Otherwise that's what digital was invented for ;)
