Just a rant really... who was the imbecile at Virgin who decided their Tivo box should un-pause itself after an hour? If I paused it it's because I want it paused, not because I want it to start playing without warning and wake my baby up!

I haven't been able to find any way to disable this, or at least extend the time, but if anyone has any suggestions, go ahead.

Sky managed it just fine, so why did they decide to put this "feature" in? Back to Sky when my contract is up I reckon!

/rant :mad::p

Don't know why or how to change - but is it to stop screen burn?

Sick of my Wife pausing sky, forgetting and then coming back to the plasma and seeing the outline of whatever she paused for the next day!

If remote isn't being used - most systems now days will go on standby mode to save power/screen (Can be changed). VM has that feature shockingly.

Probably more to do with space on the hard drive. I think it's 2 or 3 hours on v+ boxes. Or perhaps it depends what space you have left.
If you're going to pause it that long, why not just hit record.

Im fairly certain its a space thing. On my old box I only got around 45 mins max, but since I got a newer one it can vary between 1hr and 1hr 45 mins depending on how much I have recorded.

Shouldnt really leave it paused but it doesnt half scare the **** out of you when it comes back on (especially if the volume is particularly high... thanks kiddies :P)

Unfortunately, with a 10 month old baby, what I think should just be a 5-10 minute pause to get him back to sleep can easily turn into 1hr+ of changing/feeding/coaxing back to sleep. So when i've paused it and turned off the TV and I've got him in the living room and suddenly there's a stupidly loud explosion as it unpauses for no reason it's a real pain!

Edit: StooM I'm getting an AV warning from your sig...

Mute?
Its a button close to pause?
If the TV is off, where is noise coming from?

Mute is a button on another remote connected to the AV receiver, so another remote I need to find (which has been invariably removed by aforementioned small person :p)

I can understand the feature being there, and even that it's set as default, but why not give me the option of turning it off, or at least extending it? :(

Press rocrd and mute as above. Or pause/record and power button for TV.

Boxes do not have unlimited hard drive, so of course it will unpause at some point.

If you've paused live TV, then you've effectively told it to record the channel in the background. Obviously this will eventually run out of storage space, hence the 'feature' to unpause after a period of time.

If you've paused something which has already been recorded, then that's different.

I'm aware it will run out of space, but i see no reason for it to be an arbitrary 1 hour rather than being able to set it for when it runs out of space (i.e. in about 200hrs given the amount of space we have free at the moment! :p)

Not everyone's features are implemented, ther will be a million features that people want and aren't implemented. The probably reason is people would complain when all their other recordings suddenly start failing due to lack of space.

Just work around it, it's not a big issue.

If the tv is off, and the virgin box is paused, then just turn your av receiver off, or use tv sound when the baby the likely to sleep.
Its your issue, nothing more thana gripe, that you ahve three different boxes turned on, and are pausing rather than turning off one of them.

It's the same thing as rewinding a channel you have been watching, you can only go back 1hr.

It's just the way that particular feature works. Maybe they could do with increasing it but that would then cut into the total amount of space left for you to record with.

It's cool. Virgin have just emailed me with a price increase and contract get out clause. Back to Sky it is :)

Yeah it's a silly idea but as others said it's because your simply pausing the 1-hour record cache. To get around it just press record first and then pause :-)

the ? is because i'm not sure but from what i knew, a few years back mind, the ondemand was completely non existent, less receivers as mentioned, less space, can't watch a program whilst browsing the tv guide
