Virgin Cable - Anyone else having problems?

Just tried updating Steam tonight and generally browsing/emailing and I can't!

Tried all the tips, reset router, reset cable modem, tried over wireless and cable and max speed from file downloads/speed tests is about 250Kb/s on a 20Mb connection.

Not had a problem like this before, probably got something to do with their broadband service having a red light on the service page I guess
 
It was down a few days ago but surely they have fixed the problem now? They were having problems wto certain websites including steam iirc.
 
Steam says the content servers are busy, but that still doesn't explain the rubbish speeds I've been getting in everything else (yes I'm on Virgin too)
 
Well it's improved to 45ikb/s download now :( bloody joke it really is, not for that fact that it's slow per se, they are probably having network issues (which granted isn't great in *** first place) but the fact they have NO customer support what so ever!

Been trying to get through to anyone today and not possible, there is no answer! And the service status? WTF all it says is "Unplug your modem, leave it for 2 minutes, this solves most problems" then cuts off, where exactly was the service status?!

In the last week according to my bandwidth monitor I have downloaded roughly 5gb in a week, it aggrevates me really, when I moved in here in the summer speeds were maxed out, then all the students moved in and wham the entire network crawls :( I can't wait for christmas for them all to go home.

All I want to be able to do is download a single 1.5gig file and watch some streaming videos, but can't even do that at the moment

mine is up and down like a hoes knickers

i just tried just dowloading from ftp games
never a constant, speed goes to max 700kbs
then back down to 300kbs then back up

its getting ridculious, i havent seen anything over 1.2mb
and thats thru the night during daytime it sucks
virgin must have china routers in place:D
 
i shouldent be happy but just logged on to star exactly the same thread my cable virgin is slow last night 11.00pm ish
got 2mb but only getting 0.5mb so very crap tbh.thought it was me pc or just my internet.

must be something network going on perhaps? this is the slowest its been for me so far.

oh and that was scary, you have the same username as my dad :D
 
hehe that is scary his first name aint daniel is it damn two daniel roberts not good if hes any thing like me hehe.

am glad it aint just me tho thats a load off me mind tbh.

Where abouts is Rugeley Jabbs? I know that there was a problem beginning of November in manchester after a substation went out, it affected power and Virgins services, but this slowness has only started in the last week.
 
My upload speed seems to be a third of what it normally is (40kb/s), on Virgin Media's 4MB cable package. Seems that way since at least 2 days ago, at least.
 
damn it was looking forward to some multiplayer tonight oh well.

any one heard from them yet?.

im still waiting for them to fit me phone line they should have fitted the day me broadband went in but it says on there computer its done MUPPETS :D.

just did a speed test again only getting 1.17mb not 2mb damn it i was getting 1.75 last week that i could live with not what it is now doh

Interesting, I've got the same prob here in london, reasonable speeds throughout the day (but still a "sluggish" opening pages) but come the evening, it crawls like its nearly dead!
My neighbour has virgin too and he has the exact same prob, so tghe prob is deffo at the servers end.
 
well atleast it will or better be fixed any way hehe.

only had it a week regreting it a little allready still atleast we did not take out the adsl package they are having probs with that.
 
Are you using speed tests for your results because if so they are always slower for me, for example i can max out microsoft site @ 2.2mbs but on the speed tests i get less than 1mbs download
 
no and yes both i am downloading and did speed tests but tbh last night it was running very crap so i did speed tests + downloads and it was rubbish.

last week i did speed tests + downloads same site same downloads and it was fast so there is a prob somewhere.

just wish they would tell customers about it on there site.
