Seeing as it doesn't appear in the sticky, I thought I'd pimp Virgin's car insurance site - http://uk.virginmoney.com/car-insurance.

Hunting round the various sites for quotes on the 172, Virgin ended up quoting £100 cheaper than Direct Line, £150 cheaper than Tesco, and at least £250 cheaper than anywhere else did. Needless to say, I've now switched to them :)

Also, as an added bonus if you prefer to pay monthly (I don't but hey), they don't charge any interest for spreading the payment over the year.

So yeah, give 'em a go, save yourself some cash

I'm ringing and looking around for insurance now, Virgin were about the same as Admiral Group for my 307, but £300 dearer on a Puma or an MX-5 :S

Really? Weird :/

Maybe the reason they were cheaper for me is that they are better when it comes to claims and convictions. I've got 2 claims, one at fault and one none fault, as well as an SP30, and as soon as I mentioned these to a lot of companies the premium sky rocketed well past a grand.

What's Virgin like for mods? I wonder if they offer DOC cover like privilege do, and what their foreign policy is like etc...

Not sure to be honest as the 172 is standard, and being under 25 I never get offered DOC cover anyway. Never take the bugger abroad either! :p

I'd still pay a lump sum though - at least it gets it out of the way. :)

Yeah, same here, even if doing so skints me for the next month :o

Hmmm, must be something to do with my situation then that they are cheaper then if they aren't so good for everyone else. The quote they gave me is based on:

Fully Comp
No-claims bonus NOT protected
24 year old male with full license held for more than 3 years (7 years in my case)
5+ years no claims (6 years in my case)
City Centre postcode
Car on road
10,000 miles
Group 16 car (Clio 172)
2 Claims (One fault, one none fault)
1 Conviction (SP30 - 3 points and fine)

I can understand not quoting an 18 year old on a Clio Cup (Group 17?) but it's weird they won't quote a 20 year old on a 307 XSI. It's not like they are quick or anything :p

And Virgin seem to think that it's not a good idea to insure a car made before 1981. PFFtFTfftt!.

Wouldn't it be far cheaper getting a classic car policy?

How much out of interest for the 172? Mines up at the end of the month and so far got it down to £420 protected ncb, fully comp and am a year older.

Just over £800 - yep, nearly double your quote! The main reason for this I suspect is the area I live, Wakefield city centre. If I put in the exact same details but my parents address it brings the quote down £200. Obviously the 2 claims and 1 conviction doesn't help either!
