i believe you can cancel in the first 28 days without penalty. assuming a student-y area, it might be ok for a few weeks if they've all gone home for christmas. watch out for the new year.... :p

all done download speed of 31mb at the min and lighting fast,

i was never gonna be in for a shock mate, as i barely gone 1mb in the evenings if had to be better! :)

Nice one Jimlad. Please let me know how it goes for you. I'm interested in your longerish term results.

will do mate, all going very fast, for me its fantastic today watching HD videos on you tube full screen is not something i could do in this house :)

Early on with virgin i did get some sites not loading but refreshing worked, some videos can buffer but i put that down to their servers not my connection depending if its a popular vid.

When streaming works it works well and buffers quickly and downloads the whole clip very fast.

It has got better now i think, i dont have to worry about the sites anymore, buffering is entirely up to the service providing it really but most work great.

Had 2 disconections within about 2 weeks ive had this.

Only gaming is ok, was a bit patchy at first but seems to have got better in bf3 mainly i tested.

Pings were in 20s as the lowest but i have noticed i have got 15 ping on few occasions but as usual it depends entirely on the server you pick really.

Down and up speeds are great, can reach 3.6mb sometimes on utorrent. I think i can do 390k up but i limit it to 310k which is still pretty decent coming from 1mb up before.

Using wifi for my mobile is decent enough. Did get good speeds at first but seems to vary can be fast can be average. Tried 5ghz signal thing on superhub but mobile didnt detect the wifi that way. :(

Wi fi is fine once you put it in 2.4Ghz. On 5Ghz I don't get any decent signal outside my living room ( where the router is)

well just thought i would give an update as its been 7 weeks. i paid for 30mb and in the day i get over that, around 32mb in the evening it can drop to 25mb but normally bang on 30mb. my ping ranges between 10 - 40.

it went down for a whole day in our street two weeks ago effected everyone but apart from that it has been rock solid and i have had no issues with lag or drop outs at all.

to top it off i got a letter saying they will double my speed to 60mb for no extra cost, but this could take upto 12 months.

so i live in a rubbish BB area, 2.5mb is MAX and more often or not its 1.5mb and that is with o2/B, others are worse. Utube, Iplayer unwatchable

Anyway Virgin have just laid fibre optic, and i signed up for a 30mb line, they said on the phone they can guarantee pretty much at least 25mb all the time????? (big claim)

what are your views on them ?

I get 13mb/1mb with Be and I would only switch to Virgin Media if I had to.

Cable may be rated at 100mb/10mb but it is plagued with reliability issues, random routing problems and higher contention than ADSL. As an online gamer I value reliability above speed.

indeed, i think Panmasters views are outdated, incorrect and way off the mark

not strictly true...as I've said before I have mates on 50 meg who get 25-30. The mother in law is on 30 meg and gets 8-15. She also gets horrendous pings and websites that time out all the time. Virgin have said that the ubr is oversubscribed and there is no spare capacity until April at least. She's had credits for the last 3 months due to her service being so bad...but on the bright side she loves the tv service

*edit* and I forgot, she's on her 3rd superhub as the first 2 were faulty...

yeah but how many people have normal broadband issues? i had 3 o2 hubs over 2 years in the past, and all companies claimed in my new house i could get upto x amount of meg, when none could give me more than 2mb

my advise to my friends, faimly and customers is, if you can get a steady 6mb or more than stick with what you have, if you're struggling then give virgin a go,
