Virgin Media Calling

So, I've just finished a week of night shifts during which time I had been sleeping most of the day. I was missing 4 calls a day from an 0800 number which turns out to be virgin media. Now my first problem with this is, why ring me 20 times? Call once and leave a bloody voicemail.

Anyway, I finally answered this morning and the first thing the guy said to me was a request for my account password. How is that policy? The guy rang me and yet I'm the one expected to disclose personal details to prove my identity? I refused and asked him to first prove his own identity - to which he seemed taken aback and proceeded to tell me he has no way of doing this. Fine, I said good bye and hung up.

Am I alone in this bewilderment?

No. I have done the same many times and their responses amuse me greatly; they usually quote data protection, blah, blah, but always refuse to provide any information, so the call ends. :D

I had this from VM a while ago but did take pity on the nice sounding lady who called, I told her that whoever gave her the call script was a ********* idiot expecting people to just give out their password to an unsolicited caller. They seem to have left me alone since !

I've started getting injurylawyer calls recently, they keep telling me i had a car accident. That could be an issue as i don't drive. :D

Told them not to call me again and not had a call since.

Also had a call from "Ben Ward's Bank" too recently, just asked for account number and sort code! Trolled them with fake details and they eventually got the hint. :D

You aren't alone. I used to receive about 5-8 calls on my mobile a day from these clowns with a huge amount of varying numbers that they called from. Despite blocking them they would still leave an empty voicemail.

I contacted Virgin on twitter and they openly admitted that these guys were legit and if I was to get in touch with CS I could have it stopped. I was raging at this point because I don't recall giving them permission to pass on my details, though I probably agreed to it somewhere along the line knowing the T&C's nowadays.

Instead I went onto the VM forums and complained there. I was immediately PM'd by a mod, who was a member of staff and after verifying a few details for her she put a stop to the marketing calls. I haven't had anything since. Url below fyi.
