Virgin Media Discussion Thread

So it seems it isn't just my connection dropping. Loads of people in my area have been on Facebook complaining that there's has gone down as well.
It has been down twice more since my last post.

I assume there is a problem with some equipment somewhere, is there a way to approach VM to look into that?

Posting on their forums is the best bet.

Just coming back to report - I jumped ship from Virgin in the end.

Just been connected this morning from BeFibre for £30/month, 900 up and down for 12 months.

Getting a good SpeedTest result so far, fingers crossed they stay consistent. I used the OneTouch Switch service, and all I ended up hearing from Virgin was a "Sorry you're leaving, why not call to see if we can solve your issues and you can stay with us" text. Maybe in the next 24 hours or so I'll hear from them again. Maybe I won't XD

No full symmetrical fibre available in this area from any providers
Virgin offer full symmetric broadband in my area. I ordered 2GB each way but cancelled the order after calling them to amend a mistake they made - put the Direct Debit in the wrong name (lol). I played ping pong on their telephone system and found it basically impossible to speak to a human - even the online chat button was disabled! I can't deal with a company who cannot do customer services properly - no way on earth I'm getting locked in to an 18 month deal if they can't at least pickup the phone. A quick look at trust pilot reveals the true horror show that is VM. I'll stick with my ~900MB BT Fibre connection for now.

Just went through the whole rigmarole with Virgin yesterday trying to get a better deal. I'm on 500Mb volted to 1Gb, price has jumped to ~£63 (+£7 O2) as im out of contract. Went through various departments including retentions, best they could offer "with all their discounts" was £42 for 500Mb and I still have to pay for the O2 SIM to get 1Gb.
I pointed out to the guy that the deals on the website were much better for new customers, where's the reward for loyalty, but still nothing so I have cancelled. Seems like from other peoples experiences there won't be a call or offer coming to keep my business.
Its frsutrating, I actually have good service from Virgin here, I would happily stay with them, but the pricing is nuts compared to fibre. There's also major work going on here on the VM network which may or may not be the fibre upgrades reported in the press. I would have thought they would want to retain as many customers as possible for future upsells, but that doesnt appear the case.

I always used to do the same (for at least 10 years) - Give the 30 days cancellation notice then wait a week for a phone call from retentions to actually get a decent deal.

Has anyone ever managed to get a retention deal when moving from an 18 month contract to a 1 month contract?

When my deal ends I don’t want to be locked in for another 18 months because the Openreach fibre rollout is likely to be starting in my area towards the end of this year.

They texted me a deal (£19 for M125) 4 days before disconnection, which if they had given it to me when phoning for a loyalty deal, they'd still have me as a customer. It was too late as had new provider.

My plans are never to go back if I ever can now. I'm happy to have got rid of the shoddy customer service that tried to exploit me. I couldn't fault the actual service, though.

Apparently I can upgrade from 350m to 500m or 1 gig for £3 or £6 more. Still no sign of alternatives in the area. Another 18 month contract but £32 isn't bad for 1 gig. Not sure I really need the speed though..

I get quoted £4 or £8 if I want to upgrade to the same speeds.

My contract is up on April, looking forward to doing the yearly song and dance with retentions.
May this way. Interestingly this year they've added a renewal contract in my account and it's decent.

350mb BB (through volt)
Weekend calls
Maxit tv with TNT
£54 until may 2026 then £59

Probably just going to accept, tough to find better.

I've had those renewal offers and mine aren't great tbh. Currently paying £24 for 250mb BB and they want £37 to renew for 18 months.

I was getting calls due to contract ending - offering me a "great new price" going up from £37 to £46. Told them I had two providers offering £32 and £33, they refused to budge. So I said no thanks, I'll spend time at the weekend signing up for a new provider.

Weekend comes, sign up for Plusnet, book an install date, pay first payment. Go on VM chat to confirm cancelling my bill. They offer me £30 a month for 1gig. Cheaper than our original 320Mbps price in 2022.

Just ridiculous. I hate them as a company and they're impossible to deal with, but ultimately prefer not to have a new installation and fiddling around cabling the new ONT where there's no power.

Then I called Plusnet to cancel and they picked up the phone instantly, no switchboard menus, no wait. And were lovely to deal with. I'll switch to Plusnet on principle next year.
