Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I find the service dreadful even when its saying 126 down 11 up online gaming is laggy any time before about 1am.

Been with Virgin for years, we eventually cut off and went to Sky. Worst mistake of our lives! Had extreme amounts of disconnects with Sky. Rung them 10+ times, with their reply being "You have over 3000 errors on your line". My reply "Well fix it then, we're paying you for it..." They sent us another Microfilter which STILL caused disconnects. I know Sky have an issue with their microfilters because a few guys have come into my workplace asking for a new microfilter because all Sky ones have some kind of static feedback on most lines. Anyways, went back to Virgin, on 60mb BB, only ever had a couple issues with the connection. They swapped out our superhub first and it was fine, as the hub kept rebooting itself, causing connection issues. Since then not really had a problem. The weather sometimes causes slight connection drainage but it's not horrible. Always playing Online games, and never noticed much of a problem.

Do all VM throttle newsgroups?

I like my BT connection but wouldn't mind 100mb speed or more and I'd rather not pay for a landline if I can help it.

After being back using Virgin for a couple of months I am still annoyed at how poor Virgin is at displaying Youtube videos. It's just not fun!

I have a Superhub 2 arriving tomorrow as had no end of wireless issues. Hopefully it will be better. Anyone using one seen any improvement ?

Have you tried switching DNS to Google DNS or OpenDNS?

You could also try opting into HTML5 beta or bypassing the cache.

I've signed up to the Beta so I will see how that goes, if no better I will redo my routers DNS server entry address.

If nothing else helps its time for a VPN until I can leave this company.

I'm not surprised but I'm still angry cause I think Virgin might be playing this game with Google just now cause their access to YouTube is beyond a joke.

I punch the living daylights out of my connection often getting traffic managed on both up and down but youtube never fails tbh... All my TV is over IP (Incl freeview) and bandwidth is well over 200gb per month. In short I don't have any real complaints with them tbh other than the devestating traffic management!

I'm seeing a huge improvement. Had to turn the WiFi off on my 4s in the downstairs bog and browse on 3g as it was so unstable and just unusable. Now I get 2/3 bars (full). Gives you an idea on how much better it is.

just installed it and getting some pretty horrific speed drops even on wired. Seems to be fine for about 5 mins with the full 120mb then it just plummets to as low as 35k. After a restart it's back up again for another 5 mins or so. ?

Not sure at the moment. When I try to open the routers advanced tab it tells me it's unavailable.

Going to switch it off for half hour and try again I think.
