Virgin Media Discussion Thread

btw - my sea of blue posts above - was fixed by a reboot of the cable modem

thought it wouldn't make any difference as was in modem mode - but something had obviously gone amiss

I have just called. Out of contract currently have 60mb, TiVo M+ and M Phone. Never used the phone, hardly use the TV/Tivo so asked about cancelling all and whats the best they could do me on 120mb BB Only. They couldn't offer me any better than the standard rate at the moment because the pricing has just changed, and according to the bloke, the deals have not been added/refreshed yet. Best he could offer was 60mb and M Phone for £29 so I laughed and said no thanks I will think about it but I am considering leaving altogether for BT Infinity.

Well spoke to VM, they say they are in the process of upgrading my area so even though I'm on the 100mb package my speeds are currently limited to 60mb.

They have refunded the 100mb cost and will upgrade me when its all finished on the 9th October :)

I'm sure you know, but you have to speak to at least 2-3 different people when phoning VM retentions.

As said earlier, when I phoned up VM last time, spending an hour on calculating different prices for different scenarios for both VM and Infinity, the 1st bloke I spoke to offered me the same deal as any random new customer would get, whereas I've been with VM for years at that point, + I mentioned to him that I can get another money off with Quidco/TCB so what he offers makes no sense and won't make me stay.

He was like uhm that's the best I can offer (around 38/m). 2nd person about 3 days later - 33/m but 50 quid engineer install(from 50MB to 120MB). I was like really? 50 quid for plugging in cable into new Superhub aka. nothing? so again 3 days later next person - 29 something/m + 50 quid install. at that point I was like ok, but I'll do it tomorrow, just leave a note on my account.

so I phoned the next day and said, there's a note on my account, I want to go ahead. and she was like: sure and I'll give you free install too.

then few months later they raised to price a bit, but whatever, the service is good, so can accept that.

So I'm phoning VM again in the next few days myself, but definitely don't expect anything in the 1st round.

I just had my 120meg upgrade, along with the new SuperHub 2 and these are my results.

Also, wireless on my Xperia Z Tablet was hitting over 50meg

Mine can hit 100Mb + on 5GHz with SH2.

Just had a callback from retentions after giving 30 days notice 3 days ago. They offered an improved offer of 120MB for £28.50 which now includes the price increase and a £30 credit on my next bill.

Just upgraded from 20 to 60MB.

Installing Super hub2 on Tuesday. Read allot of threads discussing issues with super hub2 wireless setup over on the Virgin Media forums. Do you think I should just use it as a stand alone modem and stick with my Netgear router?

that's a pretty decent one, although nowhere near Asus RT-N66U and likes when it comes to performance.

If there aren't any features that you use and are missing on SH2, what I'd do is test the range and speeds and if they'll be similar, just use SH2 - simply on the grounds that 1 device means less clutter than 2.

Hmn just had an email from VM saying my bill is ready... £29 as opposed to the £35 that I was told it would be when I last phoned to complain about the price increase announcement.

Quite happy with that!

I would give it a try for a while and see how you go. The wireless in the SH1 was dire and I ended up buying an access point, but am also swapping out for a SH2 in a few weeks. There have been a few complaints about the wireless but would be good to hear how you get on.

What do you get for that price, if you don't mind me asking?

No problem, I only pay VM for 120MB broadband.

I new that!

Netgear WNDR3700. :obroadband
I have the same router, it has excellent wireless although the 5GHz band strength is a bit lower than 2.4. Better sticking sh2 in modem mode and using the router.
