Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Has anyone had any experience with VM's ADSL options? Unlike the majority of this thread I've had pretty good experiences with VM in the past, and have gotten used to some of their perks. I've recently moved to an area without VM cable and am trying to decide whether to try out their ADSL service or go with BT infinity for a fibre connection.

VM ADSL is absolutely awful. Have a look at Plusnet Unlimited Fibre. http://www.plus.net/

Lag problems slowly resolving, given access back to most websites and I seem to be running a little smoother.

How are they with newsgroups access? I know a lot of providers are throttling torrents but I've never had to consider newsgroups as it was part of the VM subscription. Are most other providers throttling Usenet traffic, or will it max out your connection (during off peak times) like it did on VM?

It varies. PN is truly unlimited, no throttling.

Hows the superhub as a router now folks? Ive been using it as a modem but I know need a router with a gigabit switch which the SH has. If its ok now it saves me a powerpoint and 70 odd notes on a new router!

Yay they've finally fixed my utilisation issue!

Getting a constant 104mb down and 9.5mb up now whatever time of day. The above test was done at 8:46pm, which is when I was usually down to like 10-20mb.

It's taken since September for them to recognise the issue and fix it, but I'm glad it's sorted. Noticed an extra downstream channel has come up and I'm on a different ubr so they must be doing some reseg work in the area. I've also been given 3 months services for free and previously had various credits on my account prior to this.

All in all, great work from the CEO's complaints department.

The problem has to be very bad before they'll intervene.

So glad I am leaving!!!

Engineer this morning to investigate slow speed, ends up swapping the superhub out, all works good for two hours, now the Superhub he has just put in, falls over and the Wi-Fi is now broken that they have to send out another one.

16th January cannot come soon enough.

i cant play BF3 :( disconnects.

anyway getting a new line put in on jan 4th, i complained on twitter and they responded fast. also getting a BT line as a backup! cant cope with this crap!

21TB up and 7TB down in 5 years, works well for me, wouldn't change it for anything else, not even a seedbox, stable and nearly always on, everything goes down once or twice a month, sh!t happens, it's not until you have had something worse that you go back to something better.

if it doesn't work, complain, then complain and leave, it soon gets fixed on you get it for free etc, im old so can remember what it was like on a 7kb max home line, so 100mb rocks, will be 200mb soon, then it will be fun :) merry christmas all inc VM & OC
