Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Youtube for me is un-usable. Buffering, constantly dropping to 360p. Never seen more than 40mb doing a wireless test on speedtest.net paying for 100mb with the XL package. Sucks.

my youtube had improved

but the last week or so its got a lot worse - I was getting videos not even starting to buffer, or just completely pausing last night

and I'm on 100mb lol

Gents - honestly the sh2 is brilliant !
I have 14 devices connected - no problems !
Youtube WORKS
Netflix works
Everything Just works !
5G Is brilliant.

It is without doubt worth the upgrade fee to rid of the issues you get with the sh1.
Maybe if you ask for a self install rather than a engineer visit ;)

Fair enough /re some of those points but if people's youtube issues are caused by something further down in the network (e.g. some caching server they run) then how would the SH2 make any difference at all?

I really doubt the superhub has any bearing on youtube streaming issues

if it does - then there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with the current superhubs

To be fair - your right, i did not really get many problems on SH1 With youtube but struggled around the house to get a decent connection. But the SH2 seems to eat it for breakfast, no matter what device and distance in the house.

darn - we could have all phoned up and said we've heard reports of beta testers stating the new superhub fixes the youtube issues and therefore its a hardware issue :)

whats your name again ? (joking)

The SH2 is definitely not 'brilliant'. Wireless is much improved but it also brings with it endless T3 & more so T4 timeouts along with full connection drops. I've been testing it since the trials began and while i'm glad of the wireless improvements the other errors are a pain in the bum.

I can only hope future firmware fixes are quick.

What version F/W you on ? I only saw 1 T4 timeout in a week on VT9 and then only for 30 seconds max, But now the version has upped again today so further testing. T3s are not creating any issues - as you know.
T4 errors are being worked on now ! Hence latest f/w. Compared to the sh1 Its brilliant ! And just as good as any of my third party routers. I think many will see the difference when they get it.

Just FYI I rang up this morning to see if I could get hold of one of the SH2's without the installation, which I was able to get but with a £20 charge still for the SH2.

Still better than £49

Straight to retention as with anything ;) was also asking why my discount for poor service was stop after a year as the service hadn't stop being poor... only £5 but a month but still.

Sorry now, for the newb ish question and weather or not I'm in the right section/thread but being a VM discussion I think im ok.

I came to the forums cos tbh I can't be bothered to put up with a VM sales rep trying to sell me something that I don't want yet.....

I'll be getting VM's 60mb Broadband only package (or whatever will be around the £30 a month at the time) in FEB next yet when both of my 3 broadband contracts expires....

When these guys come and set up the BB will I be left with a working router ready to go?
Or will I need to get a router myself?

I know I will need either an Ethernet cable or WiFi card but I'm clueless on what else is needed.

thanks.

They usually give you a superhub with the 60Mb package, and its working when they leave .Unless there is other unformseen circumstances!
