Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Whoopee. Had an issue contacting them previously. Can’t say I’ve been too impressed with Virgin overall so I’m looking forward to moving back to BT or similar.

Had this through just now:

As you're currently enjoying a fixed price each month, these changes won't affect you right away. But when your offer period ends, you'll start paying the full price for your package, which will be going up by an extra £3 a month. You can see details of your current offer on your latest bill. While we understand that a price rise is never welcome, this means we can keep on investing in your Virgin Media services - you can see just a few highlights below.

Im in contract until next May.

I live in a block of relatively new flats and we soon got hyperoptic after everyone moved in.

Now virgin media are asking to install their lines. Will they install FTTP services? Seems silly not to, coax for the wiring in the building would have pretty large losses. Anyone know what they normally do for new infrastructure.

Will be nice having some competition as hyperoptic could charge me pretty much anything (they don't) and I would have to pay it unless I want 10Mb ADSL.

Installs would be coax internally and fibre to the bomb in the pit. If they can service 15 floor blocks of flats like this and have done for decades, i’m sure you’ll be fine.

Seems a bit silly though. If they are taking the effort to pay the labour costs then they may as well future proof it. Will coax support gigabit speeds in the future?

Why pay a premium to put fibre in now when they already offer 350Mbit over coax and EuroDOCSIS 3.1 spec can deliver a theoretical 1600Mbit? The newer spec will driver much faster symmetrical speeds, and all that over the same grade of coax they laid in the mid 80’s. Paying a premium to put fibre in just doesn’t make financial sense - unlike BT they have a viable upgrade path without the need for fibre to bail them out of a crappy situation.

Still haven't received any letter/email of an increase .

I did. I reminded them that as part of my renewal with them in May, I insisted upon no increase during the contract.

He looked it up on their system then told me they would put a £3 credit on each month.

Looking forward (not) to the next round with them May next year.

I cancelled mine a few weeks ago.
Got the call last night.
Was offered 350meg internet only for £30 a month or Full House TV/350meg (but no phone) for £59 - so took that one. Deal is for 18 months on a 12 month contract. Got £50 credit as well.

£59 a month. Sounds like what I’d like to switch to. I don’t even have the house phone plugged into the wall yet I still pay for it. Full house, 350mb and phone which works out £77. If I can trim that down to £59 a month and ditch the phone that would make me very happy indeed!

So to get that deal I have to pretend to cancel right?

You’re more valuable as a triple play customer than a combo, more valuable = generally higher retention’s spend, drop the phone and you’ll usually find the deal gets worse, not cheaper.

I had to cancel and give them a months notice. I missed a few of their calls and finally spoke to them with 2 weeks left of my notice period.

When I originally rung up to cancel, the inbound team said cancelling the phone line wouldn't save me anything (in fact it made it more expensive).
However when the outbound team called (the one which gives you the best deals), they said that I didn't use the phone (mine hadn't been plugged in for 2 years) and suggested dropping it and gave me the 2 different offers.

I've got phone, full tv apart from sport n movies and 350mb for £47.
Got the email to say it was going up £4 a month so phoned to cancel.
Was ready for the battle with them when the guy on the phone said, it doesnt go up until next September.

& there is a perfect example of the pathetic virgin media pricing structure.
I'm paying exactly the same price as you for 100mb.
This is certainly the last year I'll be a VM customer.

it's your fault not theirs tbh.

i called up a few weeks ago and they wouldn't knock anything off.

i called today - currently paying £43 a month and going up to £46 a month for 350MB.

they offered me it for £33 a month for 4 months, then £36 a month for 4 months then £39 a month going onwards on a 12 month contract. so average price of £36 a month. i was paying £43 soon to be £46 so it's £10 a month cheaper. i was happy with that. i know others may be paying less. but it's still a good deal i got. as i already know at £46 it's still cheaper than RRP so to get another £10 off i thought was good enough to not waste my time going through it all again a few weeks later.

I can’t believe you have all that for £47 a month!

I pay £74 for phone, TiVo full tv and 350mb.

My latest bill has crept up to £67 now which is too much for what I am getting.

Mix TV ? with tivo v6 box, talk more eve and weekends phone and 350mb BB.

Going to call VM to see what deal I can get as I am out of contract now.

Got the letter today about a £2.50 price rise in November, contract is up this month so price is already going up £15 odd quid I think.

In the past with Sky I'd just phone up and cancel if they offered a bad deal and then wait for a call, if it didn't come you could always just ring back and put a stop to the cancellation (usually they offered something then anyway).

Does the same work with Virgin or is the cancellation final without paying some silly fee's?

I phoned on Monday to cancel, the offers weren't very good. Amazingly the lady I was speaking was adamant no one would call me back and offer me anything better.

Yesterday I had a call from the "Loyalty Team" and they offered me a much better deal on my 200mb broadband only package. All sorted :-)

My brother recently had the call back a day later.
He has never negotiated a deal with Virgin since he had it years ago. He called them up and they offered him a "so, so" deal. He felt there were better deals to be had elsewhere and said no.
Despite me telling him to go for it, they wouldn't want to lose him - he was most upset when they effectively said "Find, go then".
Less than 24hrs later and he got a call from "loyalty". My brother was such an important customer, he was offered a price lower than what he was trying to get the day before. He took that up straight away.
