Anybody else on VM experiencing internet drops every few minutes?

I'm on the 10mb package and this has been going on for the last week or so.

Comes back up within 10-15 seconds but is enough to disc me from MSN/online games etc.

I've tried through my router - Linksys BEFSR41 and directly through the NTL 250 modem with no change.

I'm in the Stoke area.

i know you most likely have tried this before asking but when did you last reboot your modem by removing the power cord?

I've had problems with Virgin Media (Blueyonder) for weeks now. Speeds get capped after 15 minutes downloading a file, at first it was just between 6PM and 12PM now it's happening at random times.

I don't want to ring up and complain though because I'm only paying for 4MB but I'm getting 10MB speeds for the last two weeks.

Only thing I can think of is that they're messing with the network which is effecting peoples connections.

this might also help:

Service Status
If you are calling from a BT or other landline: 0800 561 0061
Faults & Broadband support
If you are calling from a BT or other landline: 0845 454 1111
If you are calling from a Virgin Media landline: 151 (FREE)

where abouts are you?
edit: the reason i ask is because i know where they are testing their new 20Mb service out :)
also, this doesn't seem like an issue with them. maybe a faulty modem or router?

Already called them with no joy...reboot cable modem etc is the advice they gave me.

Was thinking maybe faulty modem too, but can't get them to acknowledge the damned issue never mind replace the modem.

No planned maintanence (was last week) and no service outages reported.

Our TV and Telephone package is fine with no issues.

I'm in Stoke.

Preston, Lancashire.
dont know of anything there, phone them up again and tell them to connect to your modem and check it out.

Orm:

type "192.168.100.1" into your address bar, goto the status page, print screen it and upload it to imageshack, then post it here.

it should look like:

Yeah I remember reading about the 20MB trials. Definitely never seen those speeds yet. I've not bothered connection the modem to the PC directly, because I have a friend of mine who doesn't live that far away on the same service, and he's reporting the exact same thing.

Will that work even if I'm connecting through a router?

if he is then both ring up and both say that neighbours are experiencing the same problems :)

That other person would be me and I'm sick of getting 2mbit speeds most of the time when I am paying for 4mbit.

Already paying way too much as it is, £24/month for 4mbit. :o

I don't know about Slyvester, but I am calling Virgin retentions department soon and seeing if they'll sort it out. Otherwise I'm switching I think, but that will be a last ditch effort as I don't know any decent ISPs.

Couldn't find a screen that looked like yours but here is the same information:

VM is the only decent ISP tbh with you, all the others are ADSL and normally cap you between 6-11pm

about the price - ring them up threatening to switch ISPs if they dont lower the charge. i'm paying £20/month for 4MB and TV.

Virgin Media are capping me after 6pm too, Slyvester also.

Supposedly it's a "trial" in our area. Welcome to the future. :(

That's the plan at the moment. We're on Sky TV, but Virgin Media phone and internet so hopefuly they'll do something to make their pricing more competative rather than force me to move to Sky or Be.

Yeah we've both thought about switcing to Sky, but I don't like the idea of switcing back to ADSL and having to buy a new router.

And a lot of people say even though they offer 16MB you'll never actually recieve those speeds.

Same.

It depends on how close you are to the exchange, but since we're paying £25/month for 4mbit and only getting 2mbit in the evening I don't see the difference.

Virgin can compete or lose a customer, it's black and white for me.

Ringing them tomorrow, neet to stop putting it off.
