Anyone on Virgin media having any issues today? Some sites seem to be having real problems loading, either really slow or time out -123-reg and virgins own community site for example - but some are just fine, like overclockers, google and most of the other places I've tried.

Probably their DNS servers being useless again. I've had far far less issues with Virgin broadband since pointing my router at Googles DNS servers instead. (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

You can check here to see if they're doing maintenance in your area.

My Virgin connection is completely kaput. The guy on the phone says it'll be fixed in an hour or two. In the meantime, I have to make do with tethering through my phone. :-/

Last night it went down, restarted equipment and it worked... SLOWLY

Today it is on, but it takes minutes to load webpages, can't even run a speedtest.net

Of course there ****** support said something which is probably some BS

are any of you guys living in or near reading?

if you are then the problem is that virgin are being inundated by students wanting internet, and the hub is getting overloaded.

virgin has said that the problem is low priority, and they need 10% of their customers to complain before it gets sorted :(

its what the people on the helpline said when my housemate was complaining at them

also, everyone i know in reading with virgin media (two other houses) has the same problem as us

Thanks for the replys guys - I'm already on google DNS as it happens, but I don't think its a DNS issue, as the pages are coming down, just slowly.

I'm in Newbury so pretty close to reading. Is this student issue a new thing, because until last night, my broadband has been impeccable?

nope, been happening for at least a month

Possibly a dumb question, but how do you select a DNS server?
Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings > right click the connection you want to change the DNS addresses for > Properties > Click 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' > Properties > Select 'Use the following DNS server addresses' and fill out the new DNS addresses.

We have had the issue for several days, so have many of my friends... They are playing dumb as a engineer is coming out tomorrow to swap the router out...

This site (ocuk) works flalessly, but the majority of others I use are suffering.

probably just overloaded, you did start posting at peak times, i pay for the 30mb cable line and between 5 and 7pm i have trouble streaming iplayer and radio, to the point that it is un-watchable/listenable.

i blame it on the hub being overloaded as this is peak time. no excuss though, i pay for the 30meg line i should never have issues streaming radio.

no problems here

Well tonight I'm downloading (from Nvidia) at 10KB/s, Virgin rang me earlier (the twitter team)

he said he couldn't something my router, not enough complaints for it to be an area fault (yet), technician coming out on Wednesday -.-
